Cardiff Bay Yacht Club, one of the most well known, respected and successful dinghy and yachting clubs in the UK is working exclusively with Marine Resources to source it’s new General Manager. 

This is a very exiting and highly sort after position and would suit only the most experienced of Managers, who must have a background in membership based leisure businesses. As well as a strong understanding of sailing and racing of all disciplines and levels through out the sport.

The role is to manage all aspects of running a large and successful Yacht Club and RYA recognised Training Centre with an annual turnover of over £1m

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

To be responsible for the day to day running of CBYC across all aspects of the business including acting as the Club’s principal safety officer being responsible for all elements of H&S across the site and complies with its statutory, regulatory and environmental requirements
Manage, develop and support the team of professional staff which manages the activities of Cardiff Bay Yacht Club and School and drives the Club forward.


Clubhouse

Managing both the Bar Steward and Chef to ensure that the Clubhouse is run in a professional manner meeting the needs of the members including all ancillary items for the Club’s social/sections’ programme i.e. food, entertainment etc.
Manage all sub-contractors’ services to the Club in particular the cleaning
Maintain and report to Council on the Club’s monthly cash flow and create appropriate forward projections to ensure the business needs are met and to minimise borrowings.
Maximise the use of Club assets though Clubhouse hire, grounds hire and corporate events bearing in mind that it is a members’ club.


Marina

Manage the Club’s relationship with third parties who have an interest in the Club including the Cardiff Harbour Authority, the RYA, the WYA, local councils and the local community
Manage the day to day running of the Marina by working closely with the Marina Charge-hand and ensuring there is an adequate schedule for the maintenance of the Club’s physical infrastructure.
Oversee all capital projects and monitor all third party contractors


Training School

To work through the Chief Instructor to drive the training school forward whilst meeting all legislative requirements
Create the annual schedule for the RYA recognised Training Centre and manage the delivery of the programme through delegation to the Chief Instructor.


Administration

Ensure a properly structured and staffed Club Office and manage the staff of the Club to ensure they all have clear roles, objectives and appropriate annual performance reviews
Meets the needs of all members in a professional manner including keeping and maintains appropriate books of accounts and other records.

The Bembridge Sailing Club (BSC) is situated in Bembridge Harbour on the eastern end of the Isle of Wight and Solent approaches. Supported by a membership base of some 1200, the Club is active year-round, with a particularly vibrant summer season. BSC supports three keelboat classes as well as a large dinghy fleet, and also supports Members' powerboat interests. There is an active social programme of formal and informal dinners, talks, parties and dances throughout the year, and an important training programme focused on developing young sailors' sailing and racing capabilities. The Club benefits from an illustrious history, having been founded in 1886.

The Club has continued to invest in the development of its attractive harbour-side clubhouse and facilities and is pursuing an aspirational programme of further enhancements, with significant and exciting potential to broaden both the sailing programme and the revenue generating activities that will support this growth.

BSC is forming a new role for a General Manager who will be the chief executive for the Club, accountable for the management of staff and facilities on a day-to-day basis. He/She will ensure that all activities of the Club are run smoothly and will support development of the Club's broad range of yachting and social activities. The General Manager must also act as Club Secretary as well as promoting wider commercial use of the Club's facilities when they are not being actively used by the Membership. The role includes active management of the Club's financial accounts.

Candidate Profile

This is a permanent, full-time position with exciting development potential, requiring an aspirational and entrepreneurial approach. The role will be demanding and requires an enthusiastic, efficient and self-motivated individual who is flexible and able to work to the Club's active programme. He/She must have good managerial, financial and IT skills, the ability to work effectively both with and as part of a small team, to be diplomatic with Members and to represent the Club.
