SMALL CRAFT DESIGNER - £20,000 - £35,000pa – SOUTH, UK

Our client is a leading producer of Power Boats, who design and build a range of high quality super yacht tenders and sports RIBs.
 As they grow and produce ever higher quality products the design team needs additional support and structuring. The full time Designer will work with the Drawing Office Manager to produce design information for current production and future sales.

The role will include:

    Defining the design information required for each project and scheduling its delivery.
    Producing 2D CAD drawings and 3D CAD models of craft and components showing engineering and construction detail
    Review build specifications, develop equipment specifications, review and understand vessel systems and components
    Working on development projects, investigating new equipment and proposing new systems and designs
    Capture information on the shop floor to improve drawing accuracy and produce as-built information

The candidate will require the following skills:

    Experienced in small craft design and operation, particularly an understanding of RIB and tender design, rules and regulations.
    Highly proficient in 2D and 3D CAD, particularly AutoCAD and Rhino
    Proficient in other business programs, for example MS Word, MS Excel and MS Outlook
    Experience working within a fast paced production driven design office and therefore understand the need to maintain deadlines and prioritise completion of design tasks
    Proficiency in imaging packages would be a benefit, for example Photoshop
    Show a particular interest in innovative design development and high quality design solutions demanded by the super yacht tender market
    Ideally the candidate will show a combination of experience in design and production combined with design qualifications.

PRODUCTION MANAGER – SOUTH WEST, UK

Our Client is a well established luxury Yacht manufacturer, based in the UK. Due to continued expansion, and the development of new models, they have an exciting opportunity for a Production Manager to join their team.

The primary role is to monitor performance of the boat line/s under their control and intercede as necessary to ensure all lines meet with the agreed cost, quality and schedule targets.

Typical work activities

    Work pace to meet boat hour production target.
    To ensue that the charge hands are appropriately skilled and are regularly reviewed for skill, effort and attitude.
    Monitor KPI’s and take corrective action as appropriate to ensure adherence to critical success factors such as schedule adherence, Compliance to prevailing quality standards and labour efficiency.
    Identify issues for  improvement that will enhance efficiency or product integrity i.e. (Fit, Form or Finish)
    Demand service from all support areas of the business; e.g. Product development, logistics line feed, engineering, IT, HR and manufacturing engineering are all key support functions.
    Organise meetings as appropriate to maintain focus and support to enable the line to meet its agreed performance targets.

Candidates must have a relevant marine background, and experience of working on a production line.
You will be overseeing the project as a whole, and will be managing up to 150 employees working on the production of the new model.

Candidates should have experience of working in a fast paced, changing environment which demands managers to deal with a variety of challenges.

NAVAL ARCHITECTS/DESIGN ENGINEER - SOUTHAMPTON, UK

Discovery Yachts are seeking a graduate Naval Architect or Design Engineer.  Candidates will need to demonstrate experience in the following areas:-

    Highly proficient in 2D and 3D CAD, Particularly Autocad & Solidworks
    Systems and layout  drawings and specifications.
    Perform simple hand structural calculations to back up designs
    Work to RCD,MCA rules as appropriate
    Review build specifications, develop equipment ordering list, review and understand new vessel systems and components.
    Capture as-built information on the shop floor to  maintain accurate technical drawings during the design development stage.
    Project manage small individual design projects.
    2-3 years minimum experience in a similar role.
    Proficient in Microsoft Office suite of programs particularly Excel, Word and Outlook
    Good knowledge of the marine industry, suppliers and equipment.
    Some basic electrical knowledge would be beneficial.
    A passion for sailing would be beneficial!

CONTRACT MANAGER – SOUTH, UK

Our client offer interior refit services on a worldwide basis. They currently have an opening for an experienced Contract Manager, to manage the preparation and installation of a variety of marine and interior outfit projects.

You will be responsible for leading a contract delivery team, and achieving customer satisfaction, company profit targets and quality standards.

Principal Tasks

    Plan each project to ensure efficient utilisation of resources and labour
    Assess materials and labour required for project and initiate purchasing
    Agree final scope of project with client and provide a full specification
    Organise and manage project meetings from start up to close down, including regular site briefings
    Manage communications across the project team in line with Quality Assurance manual
    Take responsibility for site management with regard to personnel and work.
    Manage the project installation, monitoring and reporting on client satisfaction, cost control, and standard of work, taking action to improve where necessary.
    Prince and invoice work, noting variations to original plan.
    Produce monthly financial and status reports
    Manage, motivate and control the performance of sub-contractors
    Lead, motivate and manage the project team, providing clear direction and objectives, reviewing progress and providing feedback.
    Communicate regularly with client to understand their needs, ensure their satisfaction, and giving advice of any potential problems.

The successful candidate will be required to spend time away from home as required, depending on the location of the projects. 

Candidates must be able to demonstrate experience of successful managing projects in excess of £500,000 value, ideally within the marine and/or interior outfitting industries.
