MARINE SAFETY CONSULTANT– SOUTH, UK

JOB DESCRIPTION
Our client is currently looking to recruit an additional Marine Safety Consultant to compliment our current team and provide Project and technical support to key accounts in offshore wind and other renewable technologies.

This role sits within the Health and Safety team and helps deliver marine safety support and technical advice to a range of clients in the renewable energies industry.


Candidates for this role need to be able to show a good track record within the marine industry and an understanding of offshore renewable energy developments, but candidates who feel that they can bring transferable knowledge & experience from other sectors could also apply.


Candidates would ideally have proven marine expertise with at least 2 years vessel handling or operational experience and an appreciation of offshore developments.


Working directly with clients and partners in a consultancy environment, candidates for these roles should be both excellent communicators and team players.


Key attributes


Essential

•        Degree in a maritime related topic, or equivalent professional time served experience

•        Proven knowledge of marine safety and risk management

•        At least 3 years experience in ship operation environment such as a Cadetship, or Large Yacht Experience or Fishing Vessel Operations

•        Excellent report writing skills and communication skills


Advantageous

•        Experience of working in a consultancy environment

•        Experience in writing Navigation risk Assessments

•        Knowledge of experience in surveying or inspecting vessel

Understanding of the commercial renewable energies environment and its implications on the shipping industry

JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Summary: The head electrical engineer will be in charge of designing and installing electrical systems for yachts ranging from 50 feet to 150 feet and managing the electrical team at the headquarters in Southern China.

Essential Functions:
The head electrical engineer shall be responsible and the focal point for all technical aspects of the project(s) in the following categories:

  • Design of electrical systems
  • Installation of electrical systems
  • Compliance with customer/product procurement specification
  • Control of external and internal correspondence
  • Development and formal qualification testing
Additional Responsibilities: Schedule preparation and resource forecasting for specific electrical activities relating to projects. Ensuring projects are completed according to project plans. Managing project team resources and training

Qualifications: The pace of work at the factory demands high mental and visual attention, and the ability to “multi-task” on many different projects. The candidate must work long hours and in all conditions. Advanced interpersonal and managerial skills are required. A minimum of 10 years experience in the highest quality shipyards which includes supervisory responsibility. The job is split between office/shop floors.


SALARY 

  • 30,000 to 40,000 Euros pa, with performance based bonus.

TECHNICAL CO-ORDINATOR, RACING - HAMBLE, UK

The Royal Yachting Association, based in Hamble, is the national governing body for the sports of sailing, windsurfing, motor boating and powerboat racing.

The Technical Department provides services to RYA members and other boat users, dealing with the technical assessment and certification of craft.  This post will support the sail racing side of the department's work.

The successful applicant will have a thorough knowledge of small craft racing. Ideally, you will be educated to degree level or equivalent and be able to demonstrate an aptitude for technical work. You will also be computer literate, numerate, have good organisational and administrative skills and the ability to communicate effectively at all levels.

The role includes a broad range of responsibilities from the issuing of sail numbers and measurement certificates, the training and appointment of RYA measurers and the administration of the Portsmouth Yardstick and other rating and handicap rules, to representing the RYA at national and international technical forums.

SailLaser Weymouth is a non-residential centre based at The Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy, on the 2012 Olympic waters, and is one of the countries premier sailing schools on the South Coast.

SailLaser runs a range of courses and tuition from complete beginners through to advanced tuition with some of the countries top coaches, as well as Dinghy and Powerboat Instructor training programmes.  We are also the South West retail centre for LaserPerformance, servicing this area of the UK with dinghy and spares purchases.

We are looking for a Lead Senior Instructor, to assist the Chief Instructor. Responsibilites include management of the instructor team, maintaining the school fleet / equipment and maintaining top quality tuition across the courses taught at the sailing school, as well as supporting the Chief Instructor in the growing community / legacy sailing programme run from the Weymouth Centre.

This would be a seasonal contract, starting in February 2011 until November 2011, which could be held by an individual on a rolling yearly basis.

Applicants must be well presented, punctual and able to interact comfortably with both the public, clients and other members of staff. Previous experience working at Senior Instructor / managment level, running teams of staff, as well as flexible working hours including evenings and weekends is essential.

SALARY

TECHNICAL ASSISTANT - IPSWICH

Oyster Marine's Technical & Quality Development Department is looking to recruit an assistant.

The role is to provide additional capacity and support to the existing Technical and Quality Development department and related issues within the Production Department.
Primarily concentrating on the ongoing improvement of all aspects of Oyster yachts and their production, with emphasis on conformity and the update of relevant production documentation.

A sound knowledge of yacht building is essential, ideally with first hand experience of composites, joinery, engineering and electrical installations.

Applicants should have a passion for sailing and boatbuilding and experience in surveying and reporting would be preferential.  The successful candidate will need the ability to represent their department/Oyster at the build yards and must also possess good report and document writing skills.
