CONTRACT MANAGER (SUPERYACHT PROJECT) – £30,000-£45,000 - SOUTH, UK

JOB DESCRIPTION

Our client offer interior refit services on a worldwide basis. They currently have an opening for an experienced Contract Manager, to manage the preparation and installation of a variety of marine and interior outfit projects.

You will be responsible for leading a contract delivery team, and achieving customer satisfaction, company profit targets and quality standards.

Principal Tasks
  • Plan each project to ensure efficient utilisation of resources and labour
  • Assess materials and labour required for project and initiate purchasing
  • Agree final scope of project with client and provide a full specification
  • Organise and manage project meetings from start up to close down, including regular site briefings
  • Manage communications across the project team in line with Quality Assurance manual
  • Take responsibility for site management with regard to personnel and work.
  • Manage the project installation, monitoring and reporting on client satisfaction, cost control, and standard of work, taking action to improve where necessary.
  • Prince and invoice work, noting variations to original plan.
  • Produce monthly financial and status reports
  • Manage, motivate and control the performance of sub-contractors
  • Lead, motivate and manage the project team, providing clear direction and objectives, reviewing progress and providing feedback.
  • Communicate regularly with client to understand their needs, ensure their satisfaction, and giving advice of any potential problems.
The successful candidate will be required to spend time away from home as required, depending on the location of the projects. 

Candidates must be able to demonstrate experience of successful managing projects in excess of £500,000 value, ideally within the marine and/or interior outfitting industries.

PARTS CONTROLLER – IMMEDIATE START – SOUTH, UK

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Parts Controller role is central to the company’s effectiveness. The role ensures jobs are completed on time by providing parts to the workshop and helping to keep control of the company’s profit and cash. This is done through the tight running of the stores and accurate capturing and recording of information relating to the movement and use of parts around the organisation.

Specific Responsibilities:
  • Monitoring of stock levels
  • Placing orders with suppliers/ replenishing stock
  • Budget management
  • Using company systems to keep items properly logged and correctly organised
  • Collating and organising items for jobs
The ideal candidate will have worked in a similar role before or be able to demonstrate:
  • A knowledge of engines and engine parts
  • Experience in boat fixing and boat hardware
  • Experience of working in an office with good computer skills including data processing and use of Excel.
  • Exceptional organisational skills and show a strategic approach to working.
  • Ideally has worked in the industry, perhaps in a marine parts store.

COMPOSITES SUPERVISOR - FAREHAM AREA

Selden Masts is seeking a qualified composites shop supervisor. This role is for a hands-on person with attention to detail and excellent people skills.  The first task of this role will be to quickly learn and understand the processes used in composite mast production.  The supervisor will help refine and improve the production processes, equipment, tools and personnel in order to create an efficient, organised and lean factory.  The supervisor will work hands-on alongside the production personnel to ensure that all targets are met.

Tasks and responsibilities:
  • Management of shop floor personnel.
  • Assigning daily tasks to shop floor personnel to meet weekly production targets.
  • Work closely with production manager to forecast completion dates.
  • Encourage and provide development and training for shop floor personnel.
  • Hands-on composite manufacturing.
  • Composite component manufacture and fit.
  • Bond prep, dry fitting, hand working parts to fit, wet layup and pre-preg layup.
  • Requires the ability to follow complex processes.

REGIONAL COACHING MANAGER - £23k + VEHICLE - HOMEBASED POSITION

JOB DESCRIPTION

The International Optimist Class is the class association of the Optimist Dinghy, the most popular sailing and racing dinghy in the world, designed for children from ages 8 to 15.  IOCA (UK) has approximately 600 members and runs racing events, training events and International racing teams for its members. 

Following development of a strategy to grow participation of Optimist sailing within the UK, IOCA (UK) is seeking to appoint a Coaching Manager to promote and develop Optimist flotillas, regional coaching and racing for young sailors across the UK. 

Reporting jointly to the Training Officer of the Committee of IOCA (UK) and the High Performance Development Manager of the RYA, you will work with sailing clubs, training centres and schools to
  • Promote the Optimist Class as a suitable learning and start to race boat
  • Advise and support clubs to develop effective and sustainable Optimist flotillas
  • Promote the establishment of coaching opportunities at regional level
  • Promote the establishment of a vibrant regional regatta circuit
Success in the role will be measured by the number of youth sailors who participate in Optimist flotillas and who go on to enjoy racing the Optimist dinghy either regionally or nationally.

The role holder's time will be divided between program development, program communication and coaching activities.  He or she will also be expected to develop and support a team of Optimist coaches across the country.

Candidates must possess RYA Level 2 Racing Coach or RYA Instructor (preferably trained to Senior Instructor level).  Equally important is a passion for developing dinghy sailing in the UK, and a genuine desire to see young children developing their skills and enjoying themselves safely on the water.  The successful candidate will be highly self-starting with strong interpersonal and presentation skills.  Most important will be the ability to inspire parents and youths alike to the joys and benefits of dinghy sailing.  Successful completion of the role will entail significant UK travel with substantial weekend and occasional evening working hours. 

You will be expected to liaise closely with other professionals, both from IOCA (UK) and the Royal Yachting Association.  In particular, close liaison will be required with the IOCA (UK) National Coach, to ensure that program development dovetails with National Training Squads, and the RYA, where the role holder will be required to take part in Coaching Professional Development process to enhance effectiveness.

This post involves work with children and the successful candidate will need to pass a CRB check.

This role would suit either a young professional seeking to develop a career in sports management or development, or a more seasoned coach who is inspired by the opportunity to impact sailing at a grass roots level across the UK.

SALARY

£23,000 plus vehicle and 25 days holiday per year

ADMINISTRATION & EVENTS MANAGER - £19k pa - HOME BASED POSITION

The International Optimist Class Association (UK) is the UK class association of the International Optimist Dinghy, the most popular sailing and racing dinghy in the world, designed for children from ages 8 to 15.  IOCA (UK) has approximately 600 members and runs racing events, training events and International racing teams for its members. 

Due to a new strategy of growth being put in place, IOCA (UK) is now seeking to appoint a full time Administration and Events Manager to manage the activities of the Optimist Class.

This is an exciting and varied role with a wide range of responsibilities and liaisons. Reporting to the Chairman of IOCA (UK) you will amongst other duties:
  • Be the principal event organiser for major national regattas
  • Support the elected Committee, the National Performance Coach and the Regional Coaching Manager in their roles including attending Committee Meetings
  • Be principal liaison with the class membership
  • Be principal point of contact with external bodies (sponsors, RYA, International Optimist Class Association etc)
  • Record and administer the expenses and revenues of the class

Success in the role will be measured by feedback from class members, Committee Members as well as the overall development of the class in terms of size and geographical spread.

Your skill set will include:
  • Strong administrative skills, including mastery of the Microsoft Office package
  • Good project planning skills
  • Excellent written communication skills
  • Financial literacy and good numeracy

You will have the following attributes:

DESIGN ENGINEER WITH SMALL CRAFT EXPERIENCE - HAMBLE, UK

X-Yachts' design team is looking for a Design Engineer to work in the UK branch.  You will be a member of an enthusiastic team working in close cooperation on all aspects of yacht development.  The position available will mainly involve the design and detailing of moulded parts from decks and liners to garages and galleys.  There will be opportunities to get involved in other areas of general design as and when the development schedule allows.

Our expectations
  • Education in Design Engineering/Small Craft Design or similar.
  • Experience in parametric 3D modelling is essential (We use Unigraphics NX).
  • Minimum 3 yrs design office experience.
  • Must be AutoCAD proficient.
  • Attention to detail and a practical approach to problem solving.
  • Experience with designs in materials such as wood, GRP, steel and aluminium.
  • Knowledge of yachts and sailing is a 'must'.  Preferably you are a keen sailor like most of the members of the team.
  • Applicants from other industries (e.g. automotive) will be considered if they can demonstrate transferable skills and knowledge of sailing as above.
  • Occasional travel to our Danish site may be required.

AD SALES MANAGER/PARTNER - WORKING FROM HOME

This is an opportunity to be your own boss, work from home for the hours that suits you, and be part of the rapidly growing and exciting market of Digital and Mobile Advertising.  The position requires managing and setting the pricing structure of the various types of Ads on offer.  It also requires populating the mobile site with as many Ads as possible and servicing those customers and clients on an quarterly or annual basis.  About 1500 contacts in the marine industry will be provided along with an email account.  Production of the Ads is not required in the job spec, although SailingAlmanac does offer to build Ads if required, in order to conclude a sale.  No driving or travelling is required, although it is expected to attend the London and Southampton Boat Shows for a day or two.  Having a home PC connected to the internet, and a 3G smart mobile phone with unlimited data roaming is essential.  Those new to working from home will be provided with all the support and help as required.  SailingAlmanac is also realistic and tune with life in general and has no objection to candidates needing or requiring a supplementary income to make ends meet, however it would be desirable if candidates can devote a minimum of 3 days a week. 

Prerequisite Skills:
  • Candidates should have some previous experience in online Ad sales and some knowledge of the Marine Leisure Industry is desirable.
  • Friendly but persuasive communication skills is essential, especially over the phone, and customer service skills need to be of a professional standard.
  • The ability, the motivation and the confidence to work independently from home is obviously important.
  • Candidates should be fairly literate in IT skills and the terminology used in Digital Advertising.
