They are currently looking for an experienced Boatyard Manager for one of their locations in Southern China.
This is a new role that is being created within the company. Candidates must have strong boatyard/foreman management experience, and be capable of setting up an efficient boatyard from scratch.

The boatyard has now been constructed but is not yet in operation. Our client is also opening a Sales office at the same location and so this is an exciting time to get involved in the project.

Candidates must be prepared to relocate to China on a permanent basis. Ideally you will have previous experience of living and working in a different culture.

Purpose of Position

Tasks

PRODUCTION MANAGER – SOUTH, UK

Purpose of Position

To lead, manage and coach a Production Supervisory team with a total workforce in excess of 70 Production, Maintenance and Production Engineering staff. Drive LEAN techniques and practices across the production facility. To be responsible for the production output in terms of on time delivery, efficiency quality and cost effectiveness. To ensure profitability through continuous improvements in efficiency, engineering and material cost; and the elimination of waste. To ensure machinery and factory premises are maintained to a high standard.

Manufacturing Policy

To efficiently manufacture products to order within varying lead times. Hold minimal finished goods and WIP inventory. Manufacturing is predominantly single piece flow manufacture with a minimum order quantity of one.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Specific Responsibilities
  • Ensure all Health, Safety and Environmental procedures are followed at all times and that employees are encouraged to take responsibility for their own health and safety and that of others.
  • Ensure high standards of hygiene and housekeeping
  • Deliver goods on time in full. Liaise with planners to meet customer requested ship dates and optimize manufacturing efficiency within the schedule.
  • Be responsible for training, development, welfare and discipline of shop floor staff.
  • Create a multi-skilled, flexible workforce deskilling where appropriate.
  • Recruit new staff, authorize holidays, and manage sickness absence and overtime within budget levels.
  • Performance manage all staff in line with company procedures and processes.
  • Carry out regular reviews with supervisors to ensure the Company’s objectives are met in performance, quality, health & safety, housekeeping and company rules.
  • Organize the efficient manning of Production areas.
  • Promote the development of a continuous improvement culture through shop-floor involvement.
  • Effective Communication of key business issues through to operator level.
  • Liaise with production engineers on product and production improvements.
2. Other Responsibilities
  • Devise performance indicators and achieve targets set by the Operations Director.
  • Stock control – liaise with Purchasing in the maintenance of minimum but adequate stocks of parts and materials.
  • Quality – work with Production and Technical Departments in the pursuit of zero defect quality standards within IOSO 9001:2000 framework. Raise quality issues and eliminate.
  • Maintenance – ensure the workshop is kept clean, tidy at all times, and equipment and appliances are maintained in good working order.
  • Dispatch – ensure finished product is packed for shipment in a manner appropriate for the method of transport and in accordance with established practice and individual customer requirements.
3. Experience
  • 5+ years manufacturing management experience in complex, manufacturing environment;
  • Experienced Manufacturing Manager with excellent man management and communication skills
  • Is effective in coaching & developing others;
  • Practical knowledge and application of World Class Manufacturing principles;
  • Has the ability to manage a multiple and broad agenda;

BOATYARD OPERATOR (TEMP CONTRACT) - HAMBLE, UK

Applicant needs to have worked in a Boat Yard or similar environment before. Be familiar with moving motor boats within a marina (RYA power boat level 2 or equilivent). Be familiar with operating boat lifters or similar machinery. Be familiar with fork lift operation both telehandler and counter balance forklift. Be prepared to carry out boat yard maintenance. Training could be provided. If applicant wished to retain training certificates a charge will be made.

We are seeking

  • Additional certification in areas like personal watercraft, life guard competency, kayaking, cruising will be an added advantage
  • Multi certification and endorsements will be given preference
  • RYA or equivalent certification is a must
  • Racing skills and experience are an clear advantage
  • First Aid and safety boat certification are a must
  • Experience in Sailing schools, Holiday Companies, Sailing events or Water sports center are preferable
  • Good communication skills both spoken and written : English, hence strong inter and intrapersonal skills in the language are mandatory
  • Should be results focused and target driven
  • Preference will be given to those with a strong educational background
  • Experience of organizational and management skills such as activity administration, scheduling, maintenance logs, handling of clients and group supervision will be an advantage. In addition to sailing and instructing you will get exposure and be expected to contribute to program planning and execution and  be a key part of the operations team hence team work and excellent interpersonal skills are  essential

OUTBOARD & INBOARD ENGINE TECHNICIAN - OMAN

JOB DESCRIPTION

Work with the other departments to plan and schedule the maintenance of internal engines.
Understand the history and manage logs for internal engines.
Although some tools have been procured already, you will need to source and procure through the Oman Sail procurement department the tools necessary for the job in hand.
Establish suppliers for all parts and sundries required.
Manage stock levels to ensure a quick response to basic maintenance and smooth operation without excessive inventory being carried.
Your core customer base will be internal to start with, as Oman Sail owns an ever growing fleet of outboard engines, plus a fleet of sailing yachts.  You must however seek new custom and exceed the expectations of those that use us to ensure they become repeat business.
Work closely with the rest of your department that will include boat builders, sail makers, and sailing specialists.
Seek new business opportunities and communicate to the Workshop and General Managers.

OPERATIONS AND MAINTENANCE PERSONNEL - GOSPORT, UK

JOB DESCRIPTION

All of the roles are to work alongside the current maintenance team and within the fleet operations department.  The initial vacancies are to work with the current 68' Clipper Round the World Yacht Race fleet on their return to the UK; later vacancies will also encompass the arrival of the new 70' fleet.

The successful applicants would be required to possess a positive 'can do' attitude, with the ability to work hard, unsupervised and in a professional manner.  Roles will vary from 'general hands' sorting inventory out, moving sails, making sure kit goes for servicing on time etc. to more specific commissioning and technical roles.

Skills and experience in some or all of the following would be an advantage:
  • Mechanical
  • Electrical
  • Sat. comms
  • Computers
  • General maintenance
  • Domestic marine systems
  • GRP
  • Small Commercial Vessel coding requirements 
Yachting qualifications are an advantage but are not essential.

There are a number of short term contracts available from July and medium term contracts from later in the year.

BOAT BUILDER - £21,000 - £26,000PA - SARISBURY GREEN, HAMPSHIRE, UK

JOB DESCRIPTION

The successful candidate should have a good working knowledge and proven experience of yacht maintenance. The work we carry out is extremely varied and the role will involve everything from laminating with both epoxy & polyester, to fine cabinetwork. Gel repairs and colour matching, installing systems, rigging, antifouling, cleaning and all aspects of general boat maintenance will also be involved.

The ideal candidate should be capable of displaying all of the above skills, however if you feel you have the knowledge and experience to fulfill not all but the majority of the role we would welcome your application.

Applicants should have good verbal and written communication skills, be able to work without direct supervision, preferably with at least 5 years experience in the industry. Although formal qualifications are of interest we also realise the value of experience and quality of work above qualifications.

SALARY

Salary dependent on experience; approximately £21,000 - £26,000.
Based on a 40 hour week, 20 days holiday plus bank holidays.
On occasions a degree of flexibility relating to working hours will be required.
