A long established boat sales business is looking for a junior yacht broker to manage the brokerage side of the business. Reporting to the company directors, the successful applicant will be responsible for coordinating the movement of pre-owned yachts onto our sales walkway, and liaising with vendors and prospective buyers through the sales cycle.
 
The successful applicant will be required to create sales opportunities by ringing clients, showing boats to clients, and negotiating and concluding the sale. They will also need to source and inspect new listings, and follow the office protocol to its conclusion, being diligent and timely with administration and paperwork. Ensuring that brokerage and demo boats are presentable and ready for viewings at all times.
 
Experience Needed:
  • Must have knowledge of, or experience with, performance racing yachts and performance cruisers
  • Must be confident at boat handling unaided, for demonstration sails and moving boats around the Hamble marinas
  • Must be confident with MS office and able to learn a content management system and CRM system
  • Must have own car
  • Must be over 25 in order to drive company vehicles

Advantageous but not essential:
  • Experience in a marine sales role
  • Knowledge of local area and Solent water

Hours of work: Monday to Friday and approximately 20 weekends throughout the year (with days off in lieu). Must be flexible to work extra hours at boat shows.

In order to build these vessels there is a huge amount of planning and organisation involved, from staffing to materials, timescales to budgeting. The Programme Manager, reporting to the Executive Director, will be responsible for:
– Man Management – Effective planning on working hours and overtime as well as the recruitment of staff (alongside HR)
– Materials Planning – Working alongside each department to ensure that correct materials are supplied for each stage of the build, and that the correct labour is in place to cope with this. 
– Budgeting/Scheduling/Timelines – Effective forward planning that can be reported back to senior management to ensure that each build fulfils both legal and time requirements agreed with the buyer. 
– Continuous Improvement – Working with the management team to strive to improve existing practise, through quality improvement, whilst reducing cost and time taken to produce each unit. Achieved through clear, marked KPIs and reporting. 
The ideal candidate will have worked within series production within the marine sector, either with new or existing projects. A massively organised individual, you will be able to work and communicate in all areas of the business, acting from a point of knowledge and authority at all times. You'll be able to see a project from start to finish, demonstrating a clear path to the finished product, able to prove your achievements in continuous improvement.

You will perform a range of duties in order to assist the Harbour Master and permanent staff in the safe operation of the Beaulieu River including the Marina and Buckler's Hard Boat Yard. You will work in a safe and efficient manner, be flexible and customer focused, have experience in cash handling and have knowledge of boats and line.
It is essential that you hold an RYA Level 2 Power Boat qualification.
 
You must have your own transport due to limited public transport being available in the area. A uniform will be provided.
 
Description: 
  • To ensure high standards of service to Berth Holders, Mooring Holders and Visitors is maintained.
  • To ensure that Beaulieu River Health & Safety procedures are complied with by both customers and River Hand personally.
  • To collect Harbour dues from Visitors to both Marina and River.
  • To ensure money collected is cashed up and balanced at the end of each working day.
  • To serve fuel as required from the fuel pontoon.
  • To ensure working boats are regularly cleaned and fuelled up.
  • To undertake maintenance work as directed by the Harbour Master or Assistant Harbour Masters.
  • To undertake regular inspections of car parks, skip compound, and toilets.
  • To answer phone enquiries concerning bookings for visitors and tidal information.
  • To work a shift pattern that will include some evenings and weekends (normally up to 21.00 hrs) 
  • To serve customers & stock shelves of shop when on desk enquiries.
  • To undertake any other duties as requested by the Harbour Master.

Tasks
 
Project Management
  • Overall management of our project managers
  • Arrangement of a weekly management meeting during which resources, including workforce and facilities, are allocated to each project
  • Provide Project Managers with any essential financial, workforce-related  or customer information
  • Monitor  all current projects  and discuss progress  with the relevant Project Manager when required
  • Hold Project Managers accountable for their projects  and ensure that they adhere to agreed budgets and timelines at all times
  • Ensure that sales and customer enquiries are responded to  in a timely fashion and provide support to Project Managers when required
  • Take responsibility for all contracts, projects, estimates and invoices, and ensure their accuracy
  • Ensure that work-in-progress is signed off on a weekly basis and invoiced for accordingly.
 
Boatyard and overall management
  • Monitor boat movements and ensure that all booked jobs are implemented
  • Monitor the engineering department and oversee the following tasks:
  1. the tidying of the yard
  2. the servicing of all vehicles and onsite machinery
  3. the booking and implementation of all inspections (including lifting, air extraction, electrics, etc.)
  • Manage contractors that deal with Health & Safety, Human Resources and IT
  • Work closely with Dave Cockwell on overall strategy to take the business forward
  • Manage the company's finances

Opportunities have been presented with a number of employers across the UK, France, The Netherlands and Germany for experienced individuals either seeking a new assignment, or for those progressing through from a Team Lead role. 
As a Project Manager you will have learnt your trade through progression through the ranks, starting as a Laminator, Engineer, Carpenter or alike and trained through Supervisory or Team Lead to a point where you are able to handle either a focussed project related to your skillset, or a full boat project. 
Your experience will ideally be on both new build and refit projects of 20m and above, working with external contractors and owners teams. 
Of further interest would be a relevant qualification such as Marine/Mechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture or a Project Management specific qualification
You must be prepared to work with international teams to a very high standard, ensuring projects are completed on time and to the correct standards.
