Our client is a renowned sailing club in the heart of a picturesque harbour in the South of the UK. The club has a very active member base that takes part in regular racing, cruising as well as the junior programmes.

This well established sailing club is looking to recruit a sailing manager, who is going ensure the sailing and other services are of a high quality. The candidate will have to report to the Officers, General Committee, Secretary, visitors and staff. The work will entail you liaising with the rear commodore sailing and secretary to develop and maintain the rolling regatta and event programme.

The job will entail the candidate to carry out the following duties.

Supporting the secretary and rear commodore sailing in coordinating and delivering the core sailing programme and open events, including planning, budgeting and provision of resources.
Providing a service to club sailing events including publicity, notice of race, sailing instructions, organising “on the water” and “off the water” support, publication of results.
Planning and overseeing the programme of maintenance to club equipment, currently including 9 support boats, 4 sailing dinghies and 4 tenders, VHF, Radios 
Providing a race day service, including liaising with race officers, issuing race bags, equipment and radios, etc., providing safety briefs as required and supervision of support boat crews.
Ensuring the sailing related risk assessments and method statements are maintained up to date.
Managing the hire/use of club boats by members.


As an ideal candidate you will have knowledge/experience in the following areas

Knowledge and experience of racing rules, race management and all their complexities.
Management experience within the leisure marine industry. (ideally operations management) 
Knowledge of risk assessments
Ideally a powerboat or sailing senior instructor qualification but must have a minimum of powerboat level 2
Has an understanding of the Microsoft operating suite.
The ability to work under pressure, using your own initiative, be proactive and be able to keep detailed and accurate records.
Experience in budget management, staff management and motivation (ideally with volunteers).  

Our client asks for the successful candidate to work Thursday to Monday during the months of April to November, and Monday to Friday during off peak times. They ask for you to be flexible with the hours you are expected to work, and you will get time off in lieu.

Clipper Ventures, founded in 1995, is an international marine events company promoting round the world yacht racing and is famed for the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race, featuring 15 individual races over 8 separate legs. The company also owns the rights to the professional solo round the world race VELUX 5 OCEANS, as well as running their corporate events division Clipper Events and world-class training programmes Clipper Training.

Clipper Ventures is chaired by Sir Robin Knox-Johnston, the first man to sail single-handed and non-stop around the world (1968 - 1969).

We are seeking a full time, experienced electrical and electronics maintenance engineer to join our technical team in supporting our fleet.  The fleet consists of 12 70' Round the World Race yachts, 10 68' and 2 60' ex-Race yachts. 

Whilst the primary requirement of the role is electrical, it will also involve undertaking general maintenance duties on all of our yachts whilst they are in the UK (including re-fit) and also during each of the 15 Clipper RTW Race stopovers in various parts of the world.

The successful applicant must have good general mechanical skills and must have experience in:

Sailing yacht navigation electronics / instruments (Garmin / Raymarine)
Satellite communications equipment (Inmarsat  FBB / Iridium / Sat C)
12 & 24 volt DC electrical systems (batteries, chargers and generators) 
240 volt AC electrical systems

Anyone applying for this position must be able to work on their own initiative as well as within a close knit team and be prepared for long and unsociable hours, working weekends / bank holidays, a demanding work schedule and extensive worldwide travel.

Whilst we are interested in formal qualifications, previous experience of hands on abilities will be advantageous.  A valid driver's license is required.

The position would suit a highly organised individual with the ability to work within a team but who is also able to take the initiative.  The successful applicant must be flexible and hard working with great attention to detail and good paperwork skills.  Common sense and knowledge of sailing yachts and their parts is a distinct advantage as is previous experience of working in an office environment.

Main duties and responsibilities:

General

All yacht preparation on turnaround days including deck cleaning
Briefing clients on safety and yacht systems
Sharing knowledge of local area in briefings
Advising on sailing questions
Any other duties as directed by the Base Manager.


Flotilla

Safety of all clients throughout the week
Presentation and maintenance of yachts
Full first day briefing to entire flotilla and daily briefings to clients on route including weather information
Greeting clients and assisting boarding
Safe mooring of all yachts each day
Socialising with guests
Day to day running repairs and assistance to break downs or call outs
Regular checks on equipment and specifically safety equipment.
Assisting with the organisation of group meals, BBQ's, competitions and punch parties
Writing weekly reports on the flotilla
Cleanliness & good presentation of lead boat at all times
Ensuring host & engineer are fulfilling their duties
Assisting the lead crew with all aspects of running the flotilla.


Bareboat

Skippering charters of up to 9 clients at a time
Yacht deliveries
Call outs and maintenance
Regular checks on equipment and specifically safety equipment.
Base/ flotilla support when not on charter


Working conditions:

Main duties will centre around the yachts, the base and ports of call. Working hours vary and you MUST be flexible to cover operational requirements. You may at times be required to assist with other flotillas either as a Skipper or Engineer or to work as a Bareboat Skipper.

RYA Yacht Master Offshore with Commercial Endorsement

General

This role will be accountable and instrumental in:

Managing the Centre's administrative and booking processes having specialist responsibilities for areas such as payments, invoicing, processing booking forms, compiling and producing data, responding to and coordinating specific pre/post booking enquires, and providing administrative support to the leadership team.
