Job Description Overview:

The role forms part of a small team, all of whom provide the important first connection for any customers who comes into contact with the company. The role involves sales, maintenance and operations. All of these require a high level of customer service skills and integrity.

Job Specification:

The role consists of an annual average of 45hrs per week working on a shift basis including some weekends. There is a 'summer' and 'winter' rota, where the months of March to September are the busiest.

The successful candidate will be involved with all enquires and responsible for the whole sales process through to a conclusion. They will deal with existing customers, with the ability to answer and act on questions given to them.

They are an integral part of the operational 'Dry Stack' team and will be launching, lifting and caring for all the members' boats.

The maintenance of the Fork Lift truck will also form part of their shared responsibilities within the team.

On a shift basis they will be responsible for opening and locking up the site.

Above all, their role is to ensure that any customer coming into contact with 'Southampton Dry Stack' has an experience that exceeds their expectations!

Job Skills Criteria:

Proven 'IT' Skills - MS office products (outlook, word, excel)
Proven ability to work as a team, but also be self motivated
Proven customer service experience
Knowledge of boats preferable but not essential
Can swim with no fear of water


All relevant H&S training will be provided along with all uniform and PPE. The successful candidate will be given full training on the forklift truck to include being put through training to obtain a certificate licence to drive a counter balance forklift, (no previous experience is necessary).

The role will involve taking the central lead on all aspects of running a modern, purpose built yacht building facility dealing with all Oyster models up to 80'. It is expected that candidates will need to live locally or be prepared to relocate.

Candidates will need to demonstrate significant experience in operating in a similar production environment although not necessarily marine. Knowledge of what goes into a modern world cruising yacht will nonetheless be advantageous.

MAIN AIM/PURPOSE OF JOB

Main objective is to ensure each & every boat is designed, built & commissioned in accordance with the relevant standards & statutory regulations (such as RCD, RINA & MCA) in an efficient & cost-effective way.

MAIN TASKS

Liaise closely with the conceptual, interior, construction, engineering, electrical design engineers to ensure awareness & understanding of the relevant rules
Review drawings prior to submission for approval. In order to carry out this task confidently, you will need to:
maintain an up to date knowledge of all rules & regulations that are in force & applicable to GRP boat production intended for private & commercial use
Open applications / files with Classification Societies and Flag Authorities
Make sure design drawings are issued in a timely manner to Classification Societies and Flag Authorities
Weekly, quality surveys along the boat production lines to ensure approved and issued drawings are being followed using SAP and on the spot checks.
To advise production personnel on compliance related issues
Write up survey reports & ensure all issues are resolved before commissioning
Work closely with the Superyacht Technical Author to help make sure SOPs and manuals are up to date and correct
Accompany class/ flag surveyors during all critical surveys such as fire insulation inspection, final surveys & sea trials
Assist the naval architects in setting up & conducting inclining experiments
Capture & record crucial data such as trim angles, speed & noise readings during sea trials
Controlling costs of all compliance related materials & kit
Ensuring all components fitted to a boat have the appropriate certification for its intended use
Make sure all class related items in Bill Of Materials (BOM) are correctly worded, specified and relevant to the specific boat


EXPERIENCE

A good skill level of AutoCAD will be required to ensure drawings such as Safety Plans, Fire Insulation Arrangements & Systems Schematics are completed accurately & promptly.

Experience/Skills Required:

Commercial acumen is required in order to assess pros and cons of warranty cases and the most effective, yet cost efficient, resolution process bearing in mind subtleties of the Manufacturer, Distributor and Customer relationships
Excellent communication skills ideally with Customers and Distributors
Diplomacy and tact in dealing with high pressure situations with Customers/Distributors
Ability to work independently with little direct guidance, but to be a highly supportive member of a team of individuals when required
Flexibility of personal working to suit needs of Customers and Distributors including foreign travel when required, although work is mainly UK based
Success with running multiple projects and organising repair work, sometimes overseas
