JOB DESCRIPTION
Clipper Ventures is recruiting a suitably qualified, experienced and motivated person to undertake the role of Fleet Bosun on a 6 month, fixed term contract.

The primary role of the Fleet Bosun is to ensure that the fleet is in a clean, tidy and presentable state at all times.  Responsibility also extends to recording yacht defects and reporting these to the Head of Training.

Clipper Ventures own and operate 12 x Clipper 70's and 8 x Clipper 68's.  Both of these fleets are involved in training the crews who sign up to do the race but are also involved in corporate sailing and other events. In addition Clipper Ventures is an RYA Training Centre and runs the RYA Cruising Scheme and also undertakes bespoke training for third party organisations.

The Fleet Bosun reports directly to the Head of Clipper Training.

Skills/Characteristics/Experience/Qualifications

The successful applicant shall:
Commercially endorsed RYA Yachtmaster/Coastal Skipper
Have knowledge of marine diesel engines
Have knowledge of yacht systems

Tasks

The role will be split into daily, weekly and monthly tasks.  An example of these tasks is listed below and is by no means exhaustive or any order of importance.
Checking yacht systems such as shore power, battery chargers and voltages
Checking mooring lines and fendering
Run up main and generator engines including engine checks
Run up yacht systems such as radar, instruments and fresh water
General cleanliness and tidiness of deck;
Ensure general presentation of yachts above and below deck is immaculate
Complete daily/weekly/monthly work reports to monitor condition of the fleet

Working hours

Hours of work will be 08.30 to 17.00, 5 days per week including some weekends

Terms of Contract

1. The position is a fixed term contract for a period of 6 months, based at our Training Department office, Gosport Marina
2. The applicant will be granted 25 days holiday per year & the statutory English bank holidays
3. The successful applicant will be paid £18,200, paid monthly in arrears
4. There will be a 3 month probationary period
5. Pension contribution to company scheme

Experience & Qualifications

The ideal candidate will be familiar with fabricating teak decks or vinyl flooring and confident dealing with both trade and retail customer requirements within the marine industry.

The candidate should have an eye for detail and skills more usually found in carpentry. We are prepared to train candidates with a suitable marine background and suitable practical experience.

Candidates should be presentable, enthusiastic, willing to learn and take a pride in producing quality workmanship at an acceptable pace. The job is primarily fabricating boat decks from templates in Emsworth but there are periods spent away from base fitting decks. Decks need to be fitted to a high standard with neat and tidy caulking/finishing.

Our client whose HQ is based in a beautiful 5* resort area of Eastern Africa is a custom motor boat building company supplying both the leisure and commercial sectors. They are also suppliers of a vast variety of marine equipment. We are looking for an incredibly knowledgeable Project Manager to bring the business’ departments together and work seamlessly.

This project manager will double as the General Sales Manager as this role is primarily connected to the sales department. The role will require this individual to direct the sales administration team through bids and tenders that can range from a few thousand to multi-millions of dollars. As such this individual MUST have relevant experience with a strong attention to detail.

The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate EXCEPTIONAL knowledge of boats and marine technology, each in a vast variety of applications. They will be required to advise clients on the correct hull, engine, seating and electronic set-up to suit each differing application, which can go from a weekend fishing vessel to a water sports craft to security and military applications and everything in between. It is often that custom special features need to be fabricated to the vessel, so some design background is beneficial.

The role will require this person call on their attention to detail and sense of responsibility to monitor, manage and approve all orders, bids and tenders before they leave the office as well as managing all the logistics of each build and be ready to travel.

Our client is a world class training centre, situated in a beautiful 5* resort area of East Africa that has found the need for a fully qualified STCW Senior Instructor. The Centre is set to service the African marine industry with a number of STCW courses as well as a number of RYA accredited courses. The delight of this role is it is for a strong and successful company that like to play as hard as they work.

The initial role of this Senior Instructor will be to Commission this state-of-the-art centre and aid the centre in acquiring MCA Approval.

The day to day role of this instructor is to implement, teach and assess the following courses:

1.13 Elementary First Aid
1.19 Personal Survival Techniques
1.20 Fire Prevention & Fire Fighting
1.21 Personal Safety & Social Resposibility
3.27 Security Awareness for All Seafarers

The Successful candidate MUST be qualified to teach and assess the above courses as well as hold either a PTTLLS Certificate OR completed the
IMO 6.09 Training Course for Instructors.

An MCA approved CV and relevant experience with the Royal Navy or Merchant Navy are crucial.

It would be beneficial if the candidate had any RYA Instructors qualifications that could be put to good use.

The role starts as a one year contract and is extendable indefinitely on a yearly basis for as long as the candidate wishes to stay.

You will need to prove that you have a flexible outlook, can work as part of a team, tackle problems and complete tasks to a high standard. If appropriate training will be provided.

Our production includes sails and covers for all types of keel boats and yachts both racing and cruising - you will be working with all contemporary materials including our exclusive Vantage1, Millenium and 4T membrane products

Whilst a sailing background would be beneficial it is not essential.
