Our client is one of the world’s leading marine electronics and navigation equipment manufacturers. They are currently recruiting for a Systems Engineer, an exciting new role that is being created within the team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Elicit requirements using interviews, document analysis, storyboards, surveys, use cases, scenarios, event lists, business analysis, competitive product analysis, task and workflow analysis
  • Decompose high-level business and user requirements into functional requirements, abstract from low-level information to a more general understanding

Technical Requirements

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Computer Science or an equivalent technical area relevant for successful performance of the essential functions of this job description
  • Preferably possess a minimum of 3 years experience performing a systems engineering or requirements development role substantially similar to the essential functions of this job description
  • Must possess proficiency and work experience effectively using Microsoft Office products

RYA SENIOR SAILING INSTRUCTOR - QATAR

JOB DESCRIPTION

Regatta Sailing Academy in Doha Qatar -  is a British private Sailing School  within a 5* location.  The selected candidate would join other RYA Instructors who teach children and adults from beginner to racing standard.  The Academy has a full yacht programme to include racing so yachtmaster qualification would be of interest but not essential.

Our programmes includes Schools afternoon activity classes, morning private teaching – ladies groups.   Experienced children have racing on Saturdays with race coaching for adults on Fridays.    We are the only operator to offer the International Award Sailing Expeditions on our yachts; bronze and silver to Bahrain and Goldto UAE.

Our fleets include Dart Catamarans, Lasers, Vago,  Picos, Funboats, Tera Dinghies, Optimists and two racing yachts.

As well as a Sailing School, RSA offers Event/Race Management – Mike Lawton, RSA’s GM is an International Race Officer and an Olympic Coach.   RSA holds a Laser Agency for the area providing boats to Federations, Government bodies and hotels.

Qatar is a fast expanding Country with a big expat community. Most things can be found in the State with big supermarkets, good hotels accommodation and restaurants.  The weather between November and March is like a warm English summer – on rare occasions temps. can go down to 7c with very occasional rainfall in winter.
Temperatures can rise to 40’s  in July – good sea breezes.

Position will be offered to candidate who shows a genuine interest in the development and expansion of the Regatta Sailing Academy - two year renewable contract to include flights and excellent accommodation. Annual Holiday - month of August to include return flights.  In addition the Academy closes for  Christmas, New Year and Easter Day  All residency, sponsorship fees, etc. are covered by the Academy.

Hours of work are approximately eight hours per day with one day offer per week/two days every four weeks.  During the period of shamals (strong winds) staff get extra time off but we operate a flexi system whereby staff are expected to help out during very busy catch up periods.

The International Optimist Class is the class association of the Optimist Dinghy, the most popular sailing and racing dinghy in the world, designed for children from ages 8 to 15.  IOCA (UK) has approximately 600 members and runs racing events, training events and International racing teams for its members. 

Following development of a strategy to grow participation of Optimist sailing within the UK, IOCA (UK) is seeking to appoint a Coaching Manager to promote and develop Optimist flotillas, regional coaching and racing for young sailors across the UK. 

Reporting jointly to the Training Officer of the Committee of IOCA (UK) and the High Performance Development Manager of the RYA, you will work with sailing clubs, training centres and schools to
  • Promote the Optimist Class as a suitable learning and start to race boat
  • Advise and support clubs to develop effective and sustainable Optimist flotillas
  • Promote the establishment of coaching opportunities at regional level
  • Promote the establishment of a vibrant regional regatta circuit
Success in the role will be measured by the number of youth sailors who participate in Optimist flotillas and who go on to enjoy racing the Optimist dinghy either regionally or nationally.

The role holder's time will be divided between program development, program communication and coaching activities.  He or she will also be expected to develop and support a team of Optimist coaches across the country.

Candidates must possess RYA Level 2 Racing Coach or RYA Instructor (preferably trained to Senior Instructor level).  Equally important is a passion for developing dinghy sailing in the UK, and a genuine desire to see young children developing their skills and enjoying themselves safely on the water.  The successful candidate will be highly self-starting with strong interpersonal and presentation skills.  Most important will be the ability to inspire parents and youths alike to the joys and benefits of dinghy sailing.  Successful completion of the role will entail significant UK travel with substantial weekend and occasional evening working hours. 

You will be expected to liaise closely with other professionals, both from IOCA (UK) and the Royal Yachting Association.  In particular, close liaison will be required with the IOCA (UK) National Coach, to ensure that program development dovetails with National Training Squads, and the RYA, where the role holder will be required to take part in Coaching Professional Development process to enhance effectiveness.

Due to a new strategy of growth being put in place, IOCA (UK) is now seeking to appoint a full time Administration and Events Manager to manage the activities of the Optimist Class.

This is an exciting and varied role with a wide range of responsibilities and liaisons. Reporting to the Chairman of IOCA (UK) you will amongst other duties:
  • Be the principal event organiser for major national regattas
  • Support the elected Committee, the National Performance Coach and the Regional Coaching Manager in their roles including attending Committee Meetings
  • Be principal liaison with the class membership

Ocean Safety Ltd is seeking an experienced sewing machinist for a new range of marine safety equipment.  The ideal candidate will have marine industry knowledge with experience of sewing canvas, webbing and sail cloth and operating heavyweight sewing machines including walking foot and triple stitch machines, including the ability to conduct basic day to day maintenance on the machines.
The job will also involve the cutting of fabric and webbing prior to sewing and the final assembly and packing of the finished product.
The ability to work with minimal supervision is essential.

SailingAlmanac.com is a mobile optimised website, providing a portable alternative to Almanacs and Marina Guides across all platforms of mobile phones.  It's a Free-2-View service which obtains its revenue from advertising and sponsorships, and with 100,000 visitors thus far its the most popular Almanac in use at the moment.  SailingAlmanac tweets the Shipping Forecast and the UK's Navigation News, and one leading Captain of the Marine Industry has called it " an absolutely brilliant example of the practical application of Twitter for the modern man".   The foundations of a solid advertising base has been established with clients like MDL, Raymarine, Sunsail, Pantaenius, and ICOM etc.  However SailingAlmanac needs an Ad Sales person to take on and manage the entire commercial wing of the website.   What's on offer is a business and a partnership.  Using SailingAlmanac as the vehicle for the business, the successful candidate will take 60% of all revenue attained with routes to 80% through performance.

This is an opportunity to be your own boss, work from home for the hours that suits you, and be part of the rapidly growing and exciting market of Digital and Mobile Advertising.  The position requires managing and setting the pricing structure of the various types of Ads on offer.  It also requires populating the mobile site with as many Ads as possible and servicing those customers and clients on an quarterly or annual basis.  About 1500 contacts in the marine industry will be provided along with an email account.  Production of the Ads is not required in the job spec, although SailingAlmanac does offer to build Ads if required, in order to conclude a sale.  No driving or travelling is required, although it is expected to attend the London and Southampton Boat Shows for a day or two.  Having a home PC connected to the internet, and a 3G smart mobile phone with unlimited data roaming is essential.  Those new to working from home will be provided with all the support and help as required.  SailingAlmanac is also realistic and tune with life in general and has no objection to candidates needing or requiring a supplementary income to make ends meet, however it would be desirable if candidates can devote a minimum of 3 days a week. 

Prerequisite Skills:
  • Candidates should have some previous experience in online Ad sales and some knowledge of the Marine Leisure Industry is desirable.
  • Friendly but persuasive communication skills is essential, especially over the phone, and customer service skills need to be of a professional standard.
  • The ability, the motivation and the confidence to work independently from home is obviously important.
  • Candidates should be fairly literate in IT skills and the terminology used in Digital Advertising.

SALARY

60% commission with opportunities to 80% coupled with performance
