The Chief Instructor is key to raising the aspirations of young people and you will have a strong background of working with young people to further develop their skills, through running an extensive sail training programme with onshore related activities. 

Based in Portsmouth, the Chief Instructor will be responsible to the Sea School Principal for the management and running of the full summer and winter programmes, together with the operation and maintenance of the PSTT infrastructure.

Provide leadership and guidance to the PSTT sailing instructors, apprentices, volunteers and young people.

RESPONSIBILITIES        

Delivering an exciting and ambitious sail training programme for trainees, which encourages and promotes the personal development of trainees through sail training and the wellbeing of all crews.

PSTT operates throughout the academic year and holidays.  The activities are primarily water based through the summer, complemented by winter training which is primarily shore based. The programme is diverse and primarily aimed at raising aspirations and covers a wide range of activities including RYA Training  Qualifications, first aid, food hygiene, diesel maintenance, filmmaking, Seamanship and navigation, and rope making. 

Delivering tuition to enable trainees to gain RYA and other aspiration raising qualifications, and incorporating such tuition within the sailing programme.

Supervising a pool of sailing instructors, apprentices, volunteers and organising an appropriate rota of instruction based on the requirements of the sailing programme.

Liaising closely with schools and youth organisations to generate enthusiasm for our activities.

Managing and controlling budgets and liaising closely with the Sea School Principal regarding expenditure.

Organising the annual maintenance programme of the PSTT Infrastructure and supervising the work of team members with responsibilities for ongoing routine maintenance.

Managing berthing and mooring arrangements for the PSTT boats during the sailing season and winter berthing/storage/maintenance, as appropriate.

Liaising closely with the team responsible for providing administrative support to the sailing programme regarding course and event bookings including any managing programme changes, catering support and any other special requirements of course attendees.

Principal Responsibilities:

These should comprise the major aspects of the job, which are fundamental to Endeavour Quay's safe and successful performance-
  • To have sole responsibly for operating all the yard plant and equipment and the management of the maintenance programme to ensure the efficient and safe operation.
  • To be the "Competent person" within the team who operates all the plant and equipment for the purposes of lifting and storing boats ashore and the general cranage work at both Endeavour Quay.
  • To contribute to the planning and allocation of space for vessels that requires storage space, both in the building and outside.

Day to Day responsibilities:
  • Using a requisition system to place orders.
  • Progression and management of orders, confirming best possible delivery dates and answering any queries that may arise.

Requirements:

The ideal candidate will have excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to plan and prioritise their own workload. They will be able to work to deadlines and have the aptitude to work under their own initiative. Educated to A level, they must have a competent knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite, in particular Excel and Word and any prior experience with the Microsoft Dynamics NAV software will be beneficial. Prior experience in a purchasing role is vital and any CIPs training will be an advantage. Knowledge of the marine industry is ideal but is not essential.

JOB DESCRIPTION
To oversee all marine related operations of Dubai Marina Yacht Club (DMYC), its marinas, and canal. Exercising effective leadership over the marina teams to ensure a first class operation for the berth holders of the Yacht Club.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide solid back up to the Marine operations manager in his duties and take over duties of their role when he is away.
  • Take a more hands on role operationally with the day to day running of the marina.
  • Motivating staff to get the best first class service out of them for the operation.
  • Implement a comprehensive training schedule for dockhands and marina staff to follow, coordinating with the learning and development manager. 
  • Keeping track of marina staff head count.
  • Appraising staff and supervisors.
  • Perform all necessary marina administration tasks as and when necessary.
  • Provision of excellent customer service to all members, marina customers and boat owners.
  • Responsibility for overseeing all marina operations teams, including marine technical, dock staff, charter yacht crew, and environmental crew. 
  • Taking a pro-active role in the planning, marketing, execution and follow up of the marina's rally and events program in both winter & summer. 
  • Ensuring that all staff complies with marina regulations regarding dress and expected modes of behavior and that they at all times offer a personal and personable service to customers so as to enhance the reputation of the marina. Ensures all boats are kept safely on the pontoons and maintains the marina infrastructure to a very high standard.
  • Implementing a comprehensive preventative Repairs & Maintenance Schedule of all marina facilities and equipment, including all work boats and where reasonably possible, ensuring that these are carried out by marina staff..
  • Ensure power, ice and water is available at all times.
  • Monitors control of waterway rubbish; by collection of litter using cleaning boat.
  • Maintain day time security of all marina berths in order to protect customer security.
  • Ensuring that the marina complies with health and safety legislation and the Company's policies, with recognised safe working practices, and with all other statutory requirements. 
  • To consistently monitor and implement utility saving measures for the marinas, as well as minimising fuel costs for all boat operations.
  • Ensure the safe and efficient use of all machinery and equipment.
  • Monitoring the performance of the marina's contractors and suppliers.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
  • Ideally the candidate will have experience in a modern marina or boating business in or outside of the Middle East. 
  • Would be desirable to have qualifications in the marine industry E.g. IMM, AMM PBI  
  • Knowledge and service of marina equipment, knowledge of marina rules, boat handling, good seamanship.
  • A motivator and leader
  • Competence in general management and modern office procedures including word-processing and spreadsheet work. Ideally experience in Marina Management software
  • A positive attitude combined with the ability to communicate fluently and relate well to customers in the leisure environment and the ability to manage and motivate staff.
  • High standards of presentation and accuracy in written work.
