JOB TITLE

Mechanic

JOB REF

MR-LM-CM-EDT-114506

CLOSING DATE

23rd October 2011

JOB DESCRIPTION

This is an exciting opportunity to be able to make a difference where it counts – by contributing to the operational effectiveness of the lifeboat station through the correct operation, maintenance and repair of associated machinery and equipment.

To you, it will be the challenge that makes you tick. This is also a position that will maximise your skills, making a vital contribution to the service.

As a full time mechanic for our Severn class of lifeboat you should have successfully completed a marine or commercial engineering apprenticeship (or equivalent experience would be considered).  An understanding of maintaining high-speed diesel engines and associated electrical systems is required as well as a good understanding of fast modern boats up to 20 metres in length.

As a key part of the crew you will be a friendly team player and highly committed.  You’ll have excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build effective relationships with both volunteers and staff at the lifeboat station and Divisional Base.

Ideally, you will either have experience of identifying defects and logging and reporting them on a computerised database, or you will be willing to learn.

Our priority is to find the right fit for the team and therefore would be interested to hear from applicants who have a practical and trouble shooting approach to mechanical problems with diesel engines, a marine background is not essential.

As this is a sea-going appointment, you will become a full member of the lifeboat crew and be at the front line of our lifesaving service and as such you will need to satisfy the Institution’s medical and eyesight standards. The nature of this role will require evening and weekend work.

INSTRUCTORS - CHINA

JOB LOCATION

China

JOB TITLE

Instructors

JOB REF

MR-LM-INST-114374

JOB DESCRIPTION

Now recruiting for our winter season from Oct to Apr at our Southern sailbase in Sanya on Hainan Island. Also known as China's Hawaii and the Pearl of the Orient, Sanya is a major tourist destination.

Here is a fantastic opportunity for enthusiastic and motivated watersports instructors to join China's premier Sailing Centre.  You will enjoy travel to the Far East, learn Chinese and experience working in a country where watersports is in its infancy as part of a team working to increase participation in a range of watersports within northern China.

China has for 5000 years been cut off from the West and consequently you will find that everything is different here even the simplest things like the way to open a banana (they consider the stalk to be a handle and open from the other end).  If you want to come here then come with an open mind, explore and discover these intrinsic cultural differences.  It will be completely different to anything you may expect and is full of interesting experiences.

Beijing Sailing Center is the only sailing school in China offering courses to suit anyone following the RYA/BCU guidelines. We are recruiting seasonal and full time watersports instructors.  The skills that we seek are dinghy sailing, yachting, kayaking, windsurfing and raft building.  Applications from multi-activity instructors will be more successful, especially with regard to year-round positions.

During our summer season from May to October, we are situated close to Beijing, while during our winter season from November to April we relocate to tropical Southern China.  Thus enabling our full time staff to skip winters and experience the broadest variety of Chinese cultures.

Our package includes return flights, visas, accommodation, catering and Chinese lessons.  As we are a young and developing business there are going to be times when we are busy and times when we are quieter.  This allows you time-off for travel and sightseeing, while you will need to flexible and be able to turn your hand to a variety of tasks.

Below is the job description for the positions available. Interviews to be held by mutual agreement.
