Our client is an internationally recognized consultancy that looks after various different styles of vessels throughout the industry.
They are currently seeking an experienced engineering manager with a huge amount of experience from designing marine systems, specifically for vessels over 35m.

You will be directly reporting to the Design Office Manager and Managing Consultant as well as liaising with the clients from a project management perspective.

The Role

The role itself will involve a lot of the following but not limited to.
•    Being responsible for a small team of engineers in the office in Hampshire.
•    Providing concept and detailed designs for the majority of vessels over 35m from varied industries, as well as regular onsite visits.
•    Carry out on-site technical surveys and provide technical written reports, as well as providing technical support to other business units and the legal division.
•    Whilst you are in the office you will have to work closely with the naval architects with the development of new vessel designs, as well as developing and reviewing technical specifications
•    Knowledge of Classification Societies, Flag Administrations and IMO rules and regulations
•    Client visits are essential along with developing relationships and business development.
•    Providing support to clients with technical proposals and specifications for re-fit work, and support on-site.

The Candidate
To be successful for the role you will need to be degree educated or equivalent marine engineering back ground and ideally having a chartered engineer status.

It is essential that you are fully compliant with Outlook, word and excel, as well as having working knowledge on Microstation, AutoCAD & Rhino
You should be able to put together reports and have a technical understanding of report writing

Experience of designing marine systems and knowledge of shipboard operations.

Salary

£47,000 - £51,000

You will be expected to display good time management for carrying out repairs and replacements as well as carrying out other boatyard activities as and when required. The ideal candidate will have relevant qualifications in relation to outboard and inboard engines as well as an excellent technical understanding.

You must be confident, well-motivated, and up for a challenge and enjoy working in a small boatyard, with a small, friendly and well motivated team. As it is only a small team there will be an element of overtime involved with the role during busier periods.

They are seeking an experienced naval architect with a huge amount of experience in the industry who has come from a similar role with an education in the industry; this is essential.

You will be directly reporting to the Design Office Manager / Principal Consultant Naval Architect as well as liaising with the group company managers as required. You will be responsible for carrying out concept, initial and detailed designs, technical services and project management of new build and conversion projects.

The candidate

The customer is only interested in seeing individuals who have held a similar position previously with a successful track record.

To be considered for the position you will have to be able to demonstrate significant experience in ship design as well as having been in a ship building environment
•    Manage multiple projects over a long term with client facing requirements.
•    Have experience with using various different softwares for structural design, FEM analysis, Microsoft packages, CAD packages Ansys and Napa would be desirable.
•    Understanding and conducting conceptual designs of commercial vessels and superyachts as well as identifying technical issues and coming up with an effective solution.

Purpose

To join a small team of Marine Engineers with their own complimentary skills
The work will require you to work mainly on Volvo Penta engines, but experience on other engine types would be desired.
You will be expected to carry out fault finding and accurate diagnosis of problems on stern drives and Volvo Penta engines
You will be expected to have good time management for carrying out repairs and replacements
Duties will include carrying out other boatyard activities as and when required
It would be desirable if the successful candidate has a boat lift license

Clipper Ventures is recruiting a suitably qualified, experienced and motivated person to undertake the role of Fleet Bosun on a 6 month, fixed term contract.

The primary role of the Fleet Bosun is to ensure that the fleet is in a clean, tidy and presentable state at all times.  Responsibility also extends to recording yacht defects and reporting these to the Head of Training.

Clipper Ventures own and operate 12 x Clipper 70's and 8 x Clipper 68's.  Both of these fleets are involved in training the crews who sign up to do the race but are also involved in corporate sailing and other events. In addition Clipper Ventures is an RYA Training Centre and runs the RYA Cruising Scheme and also undertakes bespoke training for third party organisations.

The Fleet Bosun reports directly to the Head of Clipper Training.

Skills/Characteristics/Experience/Qualifications

The successful applicant shall:

Tasks

The role will be split into daily, weekly and monthly tasks.  An example of these tasks is listed below and is by no means exhaustive or any order of importance.
Checking yacht systems such as shore power, battery chargers and voltages
Checking mooring lines and fendering
Run up main and generator engines including engine checks
Run up yacht systems such as radar, instruments and fresh water
General cleanliness and tidiness of deck;
Ensure general presentation of yachts above and below deck is immaculate
Complete daily/weekly/monthly work reports to monitor condition of the fleet

Working hours

Hours of work will be 08.30 to 17.00, 5 days per week including some weekends

Terms of Contract

1. The position is a fixed term contract for a period of 6 months, based at our Training Department office, Gosport Marina
2. The applicant will be granted 25 days holiday per year & the statutory English bank holidays
3. The successful applicant will be paid £18,200, paid monthly in arrears
4. There will be a 3 month probationary period
5. Pension contribution to company scheme

Experience & Qualifications
The successful candidate must be a RYA Senior Dinghy Instructor, Windsurfing Instructor and Power Boat Instructor.
