JOB DESCRIPTION
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Commercially Endorsed Yachtmaster with Cruising Instructor (plus Keel Boat Instructor desirable). 

The Chief Instructor is key to raising the aspirations of young people and you will have a strong background of working with young people to further develop their skills, through running an extensive sail training programme with onshore related activities. 

Based in Portsmouth, the Chief Instructor will be responsible to the Sea School Principal for the management and running of the full summer and winter programmes, together with the operation and maintenance of the PSTT infrastructure.

Provide leadership and guidance to the PSTT sailing instructors, apprentices, volunteers and young people.

RESPONSIBILITIES        

Delivering an exciting and ambitious sail training programme for trainees, which encourages and promotes the personal development of trainees through sail training and the wellbeing of all crews.

PSTT operates throughout the academic year and holidays.  The activities are primarily water based through the summer, complemented by winter training which is primarily shore based. The programme is diverse and primarily aimed at raising aspirations and covers a wide range of activities including RYA Training  Qualifications, first aid, food hygiene, diesel maintenance, filmmaking, Seamanship and navigation, and rope making. 

Delivering tuition to enable trainees to gain RYA and other aspiration raising qualifications, and incorporating such tuition within the sailing programme.

Supervising a pool of sailing instructors, apprentices, volunteers and organising an appropriate rota of instruction based on the requirements of the sailing programme.

Liaising closely with schools and youth organisations to generate enthusiasm for our activities.

Managing and controlling budgets and liaising closely with the Sea School Principal regarding expenditure.

Organising the annual maintenance programme of the PSTT Infrastructure and supervising the work of team members with responsibilities for ongoing routine maintenance.

Managing berthing and mooring arrangements for the PSTT boats during the sailing season and winter berthing/storage/maintenance, as appropriate.

Liaising closely with the team responsible for providing administrative support to the sailing programme regarding course and event bookings including any managing programme changes, catering support and any other special requirements of course attendees.

PERSONAL SPECIFICATION

The Trustees seek a dynamic and experienced leader, whose principal motivation is to improve the lives of young people, many of whom come from disadvantaged backgrounds, through sail training. The requirements of the job description make for an extremely varied and diverse role.  

You must enjoy multitasking, often with interruptions.  Candidates must be suited to working within a small team environment and often by yourself.  In order to be successful in this position you must:

DATE OF APPOINTMENT
No later than 17 August 2015. 

SALARY
A competitive full time salary package, will be offered in the region of £18,000 to £24,000 per annum depending on qualifications and experience.
