CHIEF INSTRUCTOR (OUTDOOR SPORTS SCHOOL) - £22,624pa (pro rata) - WEYMOUTH AND PORTLAND, DORSET

Chief Instructor (NCS Co-ordinator)


2 days a week (Mon & Tue) becoming full time (37 hrs a week) from 19/3/2012.  Initially Fixed Term until 7/12/2012.  To oversee present and forthcoming projects for  Weymouth College Outdoor School.

Reporting to: Sailing Curriculum Development Officer



   1. PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:

To manage the day to day logistics of the Weymouth and Portland Adventure Academy. The role will be highly flexible and require strong organisational skills, aswell as excellent instructional skills and an ability to perform maintenance tasks. The employee will have to work alongside partner organisations and liaise with schools and third parties.

       2.  DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    * Over see day to day running of the Outdoor Academy; including timetabling, producing rotas, maintenance and turning over of equipment.
    * Deliver a range of lessons both practical and theoretical for a variety of clients.
    * Design programmes, promote activity and liaise with third parties to ensure effective delivery.
    * Ensure that personal qualifications remain valid and current.
    * Keep up to date with industry recommendations and requirements.
    * Assist or cover lectures where needed.
    * Provide a positive role model for young instructors and act as a mentor for apprentices and other students where needed.
    * Use available resources efficiently and effectively.
    * Apply Health & Safety related good working practice.
    * Proactively managing and minimising risk within all areas of responsibility
    * Attend and contribute to Team meetings as and when requested.
    * Comply with/implement College policies including Child Protection, Health & Safety and Equality & Diversity.
    * Participate in any relevant in-service training.
    * Undertake appropriate personal and professional development activities and record on the College CPD system.
    * Be responsible for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children, young persons and vulnerable adults who you are responsible for or come into contact with.

QUALIFICATIONS

You will need to be a qualified Instructor in at least 2 of the essential specialisms              

    * Dinghy Senior instructor - (essential)    
    * Dinghy Coach assessor -  (desirable)                            
    * Kayak Level 2 Coach -  (essential)
    * Single Pitch Award Climbing Instructor - (essential)
    * Power Boat Instructor -  (desirable)
    * Windsurf Instructor -  (desirable)

EXPERIENCE

    * Working within a outdoor activity centre - (essential)
    * Management within an outdoor activity centre - (desirable)
    * Working with a range of students and especially 16-19 year olds - (essential)
    * Liaising with third parties and promoting initiative and courses - (desirable)                        

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

    * High personal ability in a range of outdoor adventurous activities - (essential)
    * Strong communication skills both verbal and written - (essential)
    * Excellent organisational skills - (essential)
    * Maintenance skills with a variety of equipment - (essential)

PERSONAL QUALITIES

    * Patient with both students and other team members - (essential)
