COMPOSITES ENGINEER - SOUTH WEST, UK

JOB DESCRIPTION

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB

To develop & implement composite processes and products in line with new product introduction.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • Characterisation of composite materials in both commercial & technical context
  • Develop, test, document & implement composite processes.
  • Raise and implement change notes where necessary.
  • Reduce Inventory where possible.
  • Run structured & standardised training events where necessary.
  • Design and co-ordinate the manufacture of any jigs or tools the cell may require.
  • Support Naval Architecture in defining the Bill Of Materials and set lead time offsets for each item during new product introduction.
  • Support quality in improving quality measures and preventing re-occurrence through corrective action plans.
  • Oversee and manage facility changes within the cell, this may include capital expenditure plans.
  • Support other cells/ME’s where necessary.
  • Ensure processes meet health and safety requirements and ensure new products conform to COSHH and risk assessments.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Help support the manager for 100% adherence to MPS at fitout
  • Attend manufacturing meetings when required.
  • Drive for an annual 15% cost out within the cell.
  • Reducing the throughput time of the product to improve On Time Performance.
  • Support Quality and Cell managers on improving the Right First time measure.
  • Reduce waste i.e. hours from the job to improve productivity figures.

KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS
  • Strong engineering background
  • A good understanding of composite materials & processes
  • Good analytical skills
  • Computer literate specifically with Excel and Word.
  • Significant communication skills.
  • Good team building skills and a drive to progress within the operation.
  • Degree in Marine Composites would be an advantage
