Yacht rigger/trainee rigger required for a busy Rig shop based on the Hamble river.
 
The successful candidate will be involved in a wide variety of tasks, that could vary from maintaining & repairing rigging, to helping remove and re-fit of Masts and Rigging on client's boats. You will also be required to deal with customers, both in and out of the workshop and on the telephone and to keep written records of these dealings.
 
Dependent on experience and position, you will be involved in all areas of the business and will have the opportunity to learn a range of new skills. Duties can include the following:
 
  • Terminating Synthetic Rope and Wire Rope Lines using various industrial machines and hand splicing.
  • Hand finishing, including hand splicing, fitting and swaging other hardware. 
  • Develop Rope handling skills and have an aptitude for working on and around water and in a marina Environment. As an assistant to an experienced rigger 
  • When required, greeting customers appropriately, answering the phone filling out job sheets. 
  • Small boat handling 
  • General housekeeping and, helping to maintain a clean and tidy workplace. 
 
Desired skills
  • A knowledge of measuring, Linear and Diameter 
  • Have good hand-eye coordination. 
  • Good attention to detail. 
  • Ability to work as part of a team and also with minimum supervision. 
 
Personal qualities
  • Polite and presentable. 
  • Enjoy doing practical and manual work. 
  • Enthusiastic and keen to learn. 
  • Previous sailing experience advantageous but not essential.
