JOB DESCRIPTION

Clipper Ventures is an international marine events company promoting round the world yacht racing.  Famed for the world's only amateur global race, the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race, the company also owns the rights to the professional solo round the world race VELUX 5 OCEANS, as well as running a corporate events division Clipper Events and a world-class training programme.

Founded by legendary British sailor, Sir Robin Knox-Johnston, the first man to ever circumnavigate the globe solo, non-stop, the Clipper Race was established to allow anyone, regardless of previous sailing practice, the chance to experience the exhilaration of ocean racing.

Following the return of the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race fleet, staff are wanted to join the winter refit team on a short term contract as work gets underway to prepare the twelve 70-foot racing yachts for their 2015-16 circumnavigation.

The refit will start on Monday 1 September 2014 and finish on Friday 29 May 2015 providing an excellent opportunity for winter time work within the marine industry in the UK.  The majority of the positions will be based in Hamble, Hampshire with a few positions available on site in Gosport at our maintenance HQ.

The general refit work will include, but not be limited to, de-storing the yachts, organising the inventories, sanding, painting, varnishing, antifouling, servicing deck gear, maintaining the below deck systems and re-commissioning the yachts ready for the final stages of training prior to their departure later in the year.

An understanding of sailing yachts and their systems is desirable however a practical approach and common sense, combined with a can-do attitude cannot be underestimated.  An in-depth knowledge of engines and electrics would also be an advantage.

Applicants need to be good team players who can follow instruction but who also think about what they are doing to ensure it is right.  A good attitude and mental stamina are required because there are twelve yachts to get ocean racing ready over the nine month period, which will involve working on the yachts both outdoors and in large maintenance sheds.  There is physical exertion required in the majority of the role therefore a decent level of physical fitness would be desirable.

If you are interested in joining this highly skilled and experienced team, please get in touch by sending a covering letter and CV with a view to interviews the week commencing Monday, 28 July 2014.

To Apply, please send your CV and covering letter to Rachel at Clipper Ventures via the "Apply Here" button.
