CORPORATE SAILING SKIPPER

JOB DESCRIPTION

Introduction:

Clipper Events, a division of Clipper Ventures PLC, is a world leader in corporate sailing and management training/development. Using the current Clipper 68' RTW Racing Yachts and the Clipper 60 fleet we deliver high quality corporate sailing, racing and management training events and are the only company that can provide a matched fleet of racing yachts of this size and pedigree.

We are currently looking to recruit a number of qualified, experienced and high quality sailing staff (skippers and mates) for the forthcoming summer season. The applicants must be capable of delivering excellent customer services, show a high level of seamanship and will work alongside the Clipper Events staff to ensure the delivery of first rate corporate sailing events.

Successful applicants will have the unique experience and benefit of working with Clipper Round The World (RTW) and Clipper Event management staff and the experience gained during the season will compliment any CV for consideration for future positions within Clipper Ventures PLC as a RTW Race Skipper or within other companies.

Generic Role of Post:

The function of this post is to support the lead corporate skipper by being the skipper on one of the Clipper 68 or Clipper 60 yachts to deliver high quality corporate sailing events.

Equally as important is the ongoing maintenance and upkeep of the yachts for which the Corporate Sailing Skipper will have direct responsibility for their individual yacht. Maintaining the yachts in a high state of repair and readiness is essential in delivering high quality corporate sailing events.

The successful applicants will be designated to an individual yacht for which they will be responsible for and which they must ensure is maintained to a high standard, meets the relevant legal requirements and is kept in high state of readiness and cleanliness.

In addition, the successful applicants may be required to assist with the training of future RTW race crew during intensive 8 day training courses run from the Gosport HQ or be involved in any other Clipper sailing activities including RORC offshore racing.

Specific Duties:

1. To deliver high quality corporate sailing events to clients of Clipper Ventures.
a. Cleaning and preparation of yacht and hospitality items before guests arrive
b. Meeting, greeting and welcoming guests on-board
c. Undertake comprehensive safety briefings
d. Undertake corporate sailing programme and tasks as directed by the lead skipper including sail training and racing as well as hospitality sailing to the high standard expected
e. Responsible for the safety of all crew and guests at all times during events and during maintenance periods
f. Ensure the 1st and 2nd mates maintain a high standard of service and safety throughout any sailing (inc delivery of food and beverages) to customers as required as part of the hospitality and to the standards expected
g. Clean and stow boat and corporate kit after guests have departed
2. To be responsible for the maintenance, cleaning, upkeep and inventory of the specific yachts to which he/she is assigned to ensure 100% availability. 3. To assist with the maintenance, cleaning, upkeep and inventory of other company yachts as required.
4. Maintain appropriate levels of health and safety at all times.
5. To be responsible for meeting quality and customer care targets and standards and delivering the corporate programme as set by the lead corporate skipper.
6. Attending programme team meetings and other functions as requested.
7. Actively market and promote the work of Clipper Ventures.
8. Assist with the delivery of the yachts back to the Gosport base at the conclusion of the Clipper 07-08 RTW race (note this may be via Cork week) 9. Take part in events such as Cork Week, Cowes week and the RORC Madeira Race
10. Undertake any other reasonable duties from time to time as requested by the company.
11. Assist/Responsible for the training of future RTW race crew during Clipper training courses.

Any Special Conditions Attaching to the Post:

Must be willing to be flexible in working hours and have the ability to travel as and when required and undertake ocean passages/races if required.

This role will/may require the applicant to work during events such as Cowes Week, Cork week, the RORC Madeira race, Clipper Training weeks and many other events which are not based at the company's normal place of operations in Gosport. The successful applicant will be required to stay (i.e. overnight) with the boat to which they are allocated during these events and when not operating from the Gosport base. Accommodation will be onboard the vessel. Many of the corporate sailing events have evening functions that the applicant may/will be required to attend.

Qualifications:

Minimum Essential:
RYA Yachtmaster Offshore (commercially endorsed)

Desirable:
RYA Cruising instructor or higher

Experience:

Essential:
Sailing experience on large yachts (60 ft plus) with large crew sizes (10 +)
Excellent boat maintenance and husbandry skills.
Sound general organisational skills.

Desirable:
Corporate sailing experience
Customer care/service experience
Sail Training

Terms and conditions:

This will be a full time position for the duration of the contract. The applicant will be required to take part in all events as per the corporate sailing programme.

The successful applicants will be required to work (on average during the season) 6 days per week. On occasions the successful applicants will be required to work for many more than 6 consecutive days. The applicant will be able to have days off in lieu to maintain the average.

Full terms and conditions will be summarised in a contract of employment issued on appointment to the post.

SALARY

£24,000 per annum, pro rata Post runs from 1st July 2008 to 30th October 2008
