JOB DESCRIPTION
A well established and internationally recognised manufacturer of technical equipment in the sailing industry is looking to recruit a Purchasing and Product Manager to their ever expanding team. The candidate will be based at their headquarters in Hampshire.
Scope of Job:
• Strategy for increasing new business.
• Sourcing and establishing profitable and/or strategic new products
• Reviewing the current range of product and identifying gaps, redundancy and opportunities.
• Developing a close relationship with manufacturers.
• Placing of orders - Using requisition system and excel spreadsheets
• Progressing orders - Obtaining best delivery dates and updating information
• Chasing orders to maximising product availability.
• Managing Vendor data including prices, lead times and product range
• Forecasting and planning forward stock levels, sales and availability.
• Creating delivery receipt information for goods in department.
• Returning product to vendors - Overstocked and warranty
• To suggest improvements to the established operational procedures.
Overall Job Objective:
• To Increase available market by review and enhancement of the product portfolio.
• Establish and maintain a 96% availability for all stocked items.
• Manage stock levels for maximum cash flow whilst achieving availability targets.
Primary Responsibilities
Product Sourcing
• Researching domestic and international markets in order to source quality products with emphasis on economy, efficiency and supply levels.
• Creating and maintaining excellent relationships with all Vendors.
Stock Control
• Analysing sales history and projected sales to determine item by item forecast.
• Managing orders – Placing and monitoring orders paying close attention to cost, lead times and availability.
• Arranging transportation of goods.
• Monitoring and updating the companywide requisition system with accurate data.
• Organising the return of overstocked and damaged goods.
Communication
• Providing the management team with clear key industry information.
• Providing the customer service and sales departments with clear and current information regarding orders and stock availability.
• Liaising with both suppliers and the warehouse to arrange efficient and convenient delivery of goods.
Requirements
• Minimum 5 years’ experience of Procurement at a senior level.
• Knowledge of leisure marine products by either working in the industry or as a hobby.
• Practical knowledge of leisure marine products use and function.
• Good relationship with all the key manufacturers and vendors.
• Good analytical skills
• Confident written and verbal communication skills.
• The ability to plan time, balance and prioritise workload and work to deadlines.
• Familiarity with the Microsoft Office Suite in particular Excel and Word. Advanced Excel would be an advantage.
• The aptitude to work under own initiative.
