Business and Technical Manager - Boat Safety Scheme -£35k

We have a unique and utterly rewarding career opportunity to join the Boat Safety Scheme (BSS) as a Business and Technical Manager on a permanent, full time basis. The BSS is administered through the Canal and River Trust.

About the role
An expert figure within the team, you'll support the development of our overall strategy. You'll coordinate the development of supporting business and financial plans, while devising and delivering the associated budget. We'll also look to you to design, implement and improve the quality management processes that support our decision-making.

Working in a dedicated team, you'll help ensure that the fire and other risks presented by boats on the inland waterways are as low as reasonably practicable. This will see you engaging with a wide range of stakeholders - everyone from BSS Examiners and navigation authority officers to committee members and customers. There will be a requirement to undertake regular business travel as part of this role.

About you
A Chartered Engineer, or with extensive experience in a relevant field, you will come to the role with excellent communication, presentational and negotiating skills. You will be adept with various business software systems and Microsoft office packages and ideally have experience of cloud-based computing.You know how to build and sustain strong working relationships, and your experience includes marine engineering and/or recreational craft design and construction. Target driven and tenacious, you also have experience of putting together business, finance and budget plans.

About us
The Boat Safety Scheme is a public safety project owned jointly by the Canal & River Trust and the Environment Agency. The scheme is nationwide, and has already been adopted by at least 14 other navigation and harbour authorities. The navigation authorities' purposes for the Scheme are to help reduce the risks of fire, explosion and pollution on small craft.
