JOB DESCRIPTION
China has for 5000 years been cut off from the West and consequently you will find that everything is different here even the simplest things like the way to open a banana (they consider the stalk to be a handle and open from the other end).  If you want to come here then come with an open mind, explore and discover these intrinsic cultural differences.  It will be completely different to anything you may expect and is full of interesting experiences.

Beijing Sailing Center is the only sailing school in China offering courses to suit anyone following international guidelines. We are recruiting seasonal and full time watersports instructors.  The skills that we seek are dinghy sailing, yachting, kayaking, windsurfing and raft building.  Applications from multi-activity instructors will be more successful, especially with regard to year-round positions.

During our summer season from May to October, we are situated on the coast adjacent to Beijing, while during our winter season from November to April we offer our members the opportunity to go on sailing holidays at select locations around the world.

Our package includes return flights, visas, food, accommodation and Chinese lessons.  As we are a young and developing business there are going to be times when we are busy and times when we are quieter.  This allows you time-off for travel and sightseeing, while you will need to flexible and be able to turn your hand to a variety of tasks.

Main Responsibilities

Setting the standards for the center and her staff. Challenging the staff and on water activities to excel. Caring for the customers and their experience at the center. Establishing the safety and operating procedures for the centre in line with international best practice. Recruiting, caring, supervising, scheduling, appraising staff. Organising the course schedule, allocation of resources to students. (Chief & Assistant Chief Instructor only)
Running water-sports courses for children and adults wether on land or on water.  Coaching of competent sailors.  Assessing the skills in respect of awarding qualifications or determining equivalence.  Running and supervising alternative activities whether or not sailing related, in the case of inclement weather or otherwise.
Assisting on the beach and in the dinghy park with the rigging, launching, recovering, de-rigging and wash down of the boats, equipment and centre. Laying & retrieving of marks and organizing races.
Carry out boat, equipment and centre maintenance, in order that the centre and member equipment and environment is maintained in good order. Keeping a record of damage to boats, equipment and the centre.
Greeting visitors, whether in person, by email or by phone, attending to their questions, showing them around the sailing centre, generally being hospitable and encouraging people to learn to sail. As required, interfacing with the local community, expats and  membership to promote sailing.
Carry out safety duties, including but not limited to operating a safety boat or watch tower. Supervision of children, when unaccompanied children are present in the centre. Watching out for potential hazards and risk in and around the sailing centre and either, in the case of an apparent danger, taking action immediately to address the problem or reporting the potential problem.
Attending to sailing-related administration in a timely fashion, including but not limited to qualification records and certificates.
Any other duties as directed by your manager
