The Bembridge Sailing Club is forming a new role as Chief Instructor (Sailing) to support our junior and youth (Cadet) sailing programmes.
The objective of the role is to deliver a high standard of instruction to youths both ashore and afloat, ranging from entry level through to coached racing.
The successful candidate will:
The candidate should be both an RYA Senior Instructor and RYA Race Coach Level 2 to fulfil the role, also ideally with a keelboat endorsement (but not essential at this time)
Experience in race coaching for junior or youth classes
Possess good communication and presentation skills, with an ability to engender enthusiasm for sailing amongst young sailors
Have management skills to lead our club instructor organisation
Have a strong focus on leadership and service
Be a 'self starter', highly organised, independent and able to work at all levels across the Club, liaising with club management, Flag Officers, parents and cadets
An enthusiasm for the sport, including personal interest in participation in sailing and racing development
Our fleet includes Optimist dinghies, RS Fevas, Topaz, Lasers, plus selected higher performance dinghies (Laser 3000, 29er). We are also seeking to encourage our young to get involved with our keelboat fleets, including Redwings, Bembridge One Designs and Illusions.
While the main focus of the role is to develop our youth sailing from the club, we also seek to develop broader participation with other East Wight and Island sailing clubs, and also encourage our cadets to participate in regional and national regattas. An important aspect of the role is also the development of our young instructor organization. The development of our adult training is also an objective in time.

The objective of the role is to deliver a high standard of instruction to youths both ashore and afloat, ranging from entry level through to coached racing.

The candidate should be both an RYA Senior Instructor and RYA Race Coach Level 2 to fulfil the role, also ideally with a keelboat endorsement (but not essential at this time)
Experience in race coaching for junior or youth classes
Possess good communication and presentation skills, with an ability to engender enthusiasm for sailing amongst young sailors
Have management skills to lead our club instructor organisation
Have a strong focus on leadership and service
Be a 'self starter', highly organised, independent and able to work at all levels across the Club, liaising with club management, Flag Officers, parents and cadets
An enthusiasm for the sport, including personal interest in participation in sailing and racing development
Our fleet includes Optimist dinghies, RS Fevas, Topaz, Lasers, plus selected higher performance dinghies (Laser 3000, 29er). We are also seeking to encourage our young to get involved with our keelboat fleets, including Redwings, Bembridge One Designs and Illusions.
While the main focus of the role is to develop our youth sailing from the club, we also seek to develop broader participation with other East Wight and Island sailing clubs, and also encourage our cadets to participate in regional and national regattas. An important aspect of the role is also the development of our young instructor organization. The development of our adult training is also an objective in time.

JOB DESCRIPTION
The successful candidate should have a good working knowledge and proven experience of yacht maintenance. The work we carry out is extremely varied and the role will involve everything from laminating with both epoxy & polyester, to fine cabinetwork, Gel repairs and colour matching, installing systems, rigging, antifouling and cleaning. All aspects of general boat maintenance will be involved.
Applicants should have very good verbal and written communications skills and be able to speak to and liaise with customers, present a professional image and be able to provide a high level of service and standards.
They should be able to work to deadlines, organize/prioritise their own work with minimal guidance and be competent/confident in supervising other works, subcontractors and staff where required.
They will preferably have at least 6 years of direct experience in the industry. Although formal qualifications are of interest we also realise the value of experience and quality of work above qualifications.

Main duties and responsibilities:
General

Overview
We are a leader in the growing membership boating sector. Based in Hamble, we are looking for a committed, customer focused but primarily technically skilled individual who can be part of taking the business to the next level.
The successful applicant will be hard working, resourceful and personable and have a desire to be part of a growing and exciting business. Being a small business, flexibility to turn your hand to a variety of tasks is key.
He/she will have the ability to work independently using good initiative, be comfortable managing a range of relationships and be a skilled multitasker. The successful applicant will report to the Company's Director.
The ideal candidate will take over the management of the fleet, (currently 15 boats) but enthusiastic applicants with less experience, but with the ability to grow into the role, will also be considered.
Purpose
Manage the efficient maintenance, operation and performance of our fleet (15 boats in 4 locations but growing), ensuring boats are seaworthy and that scheduled cleaning, restocking and maintenance duties are completed and unsheduled repairs are managed to maintain customer satisfaction and business performance.
Key Accountabilities
Ensure boats are maintained to safe standard, are available operationally for all bookings and are presentable to appropriate standard
Manage an appropriate checking system to ensure appropriate logging of damage and faults.
Manage and evolve the current maintenance scheduling systems and processes
Purchase efficiently the equipment, parts, spares and tools required to maintain the fleet.
Organise, supervise and monitor sub contractor work and to manage associated costs.
Manage the MCA coding process for any new boats
Skipper boats and conduct familiarisation and general sailing instruction.
Be on call for customer queries and available at short notice for emergency repairs.
Additional accountabilities
Assist with sales activity as required and appropriate, eg boat shows, trials, open days.
We are a small team and so need a willingness to help out across a range of duties as and when required e.g. general office duties (post, take messages, invoicing and data entry)
Experience required
Good understanding of boating, the wider marine sector and ideally the charter/membership boating sector
5 years relevant engineering experience with a deep understanding of boat engineering, operations and maintenance (construction, systems, rigging, etc.)

Overview
We are a leader in the growing membership boating sector. Based in Hamble, we are looking for a committed, customer focused but primarily technically skilled individual who can be part of taking the business to the next level.
The successful applicant will be hard working, resourceful and personable and have a desire to be part of a growing and exciting business. Being a small business, flexibility to turn your hand to a variety of tasks is key.
He/she will have the ability to work independently using good initiative, be comfortable managing a range of relationships and be a skilled multitasker. The successful applicant will report to the Company's Director.
The ideal candidate will take over the management of the fleet, (currently 15 boats) but enthusiastic applicants with less experience, but with the ability to grow into the role, will also be considered.
Purpose
Manage the efficient maintenance, operation and performance of our fleet (15 boats in 4 locations but growing), ensuring boats are seaworthy and that scheduled cleaning, restocking and maintenance duties are completed and unsheduled repairs are managed to maintain customer satisfaction and business performance.
Key Accountabilities
Ensure boats are maintained to safe standard, are available operationally for all bookings and are presentable to appropriate standard
Manage an appropriate checking system to ensure appropriate logging of damage and faults.
Manage and evolve the current maintenance scheduling systems and processes
Purchase efficiently the equipment, parts, spares and tools required to maintain the fleet.
Organise, supervise and monitor sub contractor work and to manage associated costs.
Manage the MCA coding process for any new boats
Skipper boats and conduct familiarisation and general sailing instruction.
Be on call for customer queries and available at short notice for emergency repairs.
Additional accountabilities
Assist with sales activity as required and appropriate, eg boat shows, trials, open days.
We are a small team and so need a willingness to help out across a range of duties as and when required e.g. general office duties (post, take messages, invoicing and data entry)
Experience required
Good understanding of boating, the wider marine sector and ideally the charter/membership boating sector
5 years relevant engineering experience with a deep understanding of boat engineering, operations and maintenance (construction, systems, rigging, etc.)
Experience of purchasing and supplier management
Good network of marine contacts
Experience of working in a small business and ability to apply oneself to the range of diverse activities that occur in a small business
