JOB DESCRIPTION
The Team Leader role is key to the quality of the learner experience and success. The Team Leader will work with the personal tutors, Curriculum Managers and other cross college departments to deliver high levels student satisfaction, success and progression.

Team leaders will support the performance of the educational and administrative functions which ensure high quality teaching & learning and pastoral support. They will attend regular meetings across college and with the Curriculum Manager.

It is recognised that the context in which Team Leaders work varies significantly e.g. Team Leaders for part-time courses or community education programmes may perform different tasks from those for example running a full-time BTEC National or an ESOL programme.  The tasks and functions outlined below specify the main responsibilities which are generally applicable to the role of Team Leader. 

The role will provide efficient and effective support and leadership in all of the following tasks where appropriate.

• Attend the college Team Leader group meeting
• Arranging prospective learner interviews and shadowing.
• Ensuring course information sheets and course handbooks are developed and updated.
• Leading the course induction for learners
• Ensuring time-tables are submitted within the identified timescales and are updated regularly.
• Co-ordinate cover for lessons and/or management of learners during staff sickness
• Ensure course reviews are completed and areas for development are taken forward.
• Lead and participate in team meetings
• Lead Internal Verification processes within the identified area and work with Quality Improvement to fulfil Awarding Body requirements.
•Lead teaching & learning improvements and facilitate the sharing of good practice in your area.
•Lead and participate in peer observations
• Data compilation and analysis regarding learners.
• Implementation of College policies and procedures
• Liaise with Learning Coaches and ensure effective strategies are in place to retain learners.
• Ensure learners engage in cross college enrichment events and fulfil the ECM and Citizenship agenda.
• Ensure learners are provided with the appropriate careers advice including progression onto the next level of programme, UCA applications, Aim Higher activities and external speakers.
• Ensure the curriculum delivery develops employability skills and reflects current industry practice through employer contacts.
• Ensure progress reports and parent/carer evenings are completed in a timely manner.
• Ensure every learner has an ILP which is reviewed regularly.
• Be involved in the student disciplinary process where appropriate.

Lecturing Responsibilities

• Contribute to the development and delivery of a range of educational programmes including identifying learning objectives; determining, designing and producing study material; planning course/study programme delivery.
• Contribute to high quality learning experiences using a variety of teaching and learning methods.
• Ensure that teaching is based on current best available practice and is consistent with a high standard of practice.
• Provide academic and pastoral support to students in accordance with agreed procedures.
• Create an outstanding student experience which leads to progression or employment.
• Manage student issues within agreed protocols.
• Undertake such other reasonable duties as the line manager may require from time to time and review this Job Description annually with the line manager.
• Participate in the College’s appraisal process and to undertake any training that may be appropriate.
• Take appropriate responsibility to ensure the health and safety of self and others.

Skills & Qualifications

• Knowledge of current evidence-based practice in field(s) of expertise.
• Knowledge of issues relating to equal opportunities and cultural diversity.
• Knowledge of and commitment to Safeguarding Children and vulnerable adults legislation
• Some experience of facilitating learning for students in Further or Higher Education or an appropriate workplace setting, for example school.
• Excellent organisational skills
• Focused on team working
• Flexible and adaptable attitude to working with students of all ages
• Good communication skills
• Proven ability to plan and organise own workload.
• Ability to access and use relevant sources of research evidence.
