JOB DESCRIPTION
Our client has recently been selected to become Canada’s West coast centre of Excellence and long term partner for ship building. It has received a multi-billion dollar grant to construct 17 ships over the next decade. They are investing $200 million into its shipyard facilities.

The Application Support Analyst has the primary accountability in supporting, maintaining and ensuring the smooth running of the NS5 Maintenance Management System. This includes on-going training and system configuration for users; data integrity and asset structure formatting to maintain commonality for all assets; issue tracking; problem determination and resolution; execution of routine and non-routine support procedures; documentation; testing, and change management. Tasks may also involve providing project management and support for all phases of assigned system development, implementation of upgrades and enhancements.
                                                      
This role must demonstrate a strong technical aptitude, a keen desire to keep up with the changing technical environment, and the ability to reference information and research appropriate solutions within a short turnaround time. In addition, this role must demonstrate creativity, flexibility and strong prioritization skills when handling daily workload and technical issues.The ability to work effectively as part of a collaborative project team is essential.

Duties/Accountabilities

  •     Responsible for the identification, tracking, resolution and general support of any functional and technical NS5 issues.
  •     Active in the development, implementation and testing of any new release, upgrades or enhancements to the ship and shore NS5 environment.
  •     Liaises with subject matter experts in Fleet Engineering, Vessel Operations, Radio Shop and other areas as required to ensure alignment of NS5 application requirements.
  •     Responsible for data quality and integrity in the NS5 application.
  •     Manages, maintains and provides guidance on user profile setup in the application.
  •     As Administrator for the system, performs day to day application tasks, including routine and non-routine procedures, user and asset additions or changes and updates to other Administrator Only accessible data in the system.
  •     Champion the correct use and adoption of NS5 both ship and shore.
  •     Ensure application business rules and processes are aligned with business requirements.
  •     Travels to Client offices, maintenance facilities and vessels as required providing training and support.
  •     Advises Management of requirements (resources, procedures, and infrastructure) to maintain and enhance the application.
  •     Ensures  appropriate IT methodologies and standards are maintained for NS5, including backup and disaster recovery.
  •     Monitors System performance and resolves any related issues
  •     Organizes and implements new asset databases in NS5 as required.

Education & Experience

  •     Post-secondary degree or diploma in Information Technology, Computer Science or Business Administration.
  •     Knowledge of RDBMS (Oracle / MS SQL), SQL Scripting, Visual Basic or other programming/scripting languages, Crystal Reports (Business Objects, Infoview) and/or Microsoft Report Builder and Reporting Services 2008.
  •     Knowledge of SharePoint 2007, Active Directory, Windows Server environments, MS Office.
  •     3 years of progressive I.T. positions or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  •     Experience with software testing and database administration.
  •     Experience with marine shipping systems an asset.

Skills & Knowledge

  •     Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; well organized, able to prioritize and complete tasks in a timely manner, with minimum guidance or prompting.
  •     Demonstrated ability to provide training to a wide variety of users with varying computer skills.
  •     Strong analytical, problem solving, time management, decision making and research skills.
  •     As this role requires work aboard our vessels good physical condition and capability to perform the required duties.
  •     Demonstrate good aptitude to learn and understand business usage of the system and make suggestions for continuous improvement.
  •     Available to travel to regional offices and to vessels to service software, if required.
  •     Ability to encourage and ensure adequate performance of external service providers.
  •     Good understanding of software development lifecycle and project management methodologies.
