JOB DESCRIPTION
About the role

Our previous Operations Supervisor has just taken retirement, so we're looking for someone new to help maintain, conserve and improve the attractiveness of the waterways in and around London's Docklands. Join us, and you'll manage a dedicated team of up to nine operatives at the heart of our operations - delivering everything from customer service and rapid response to vegetation management and construction, piling and dredging.

We'll also look to you to manage large ship movements, lockages, berthings, water levels and the operation of moving bridges. Whatever the challenge, you'll be fully accountable for your team's work -- including planned preventative maintenance and defect works.
At all times, you will lead by example, ensuring safety and efficiency is a priority, as is completing works on schedule. In this way, you'll be helping to encourage and increase the number of customers who use and enjoy our waterways.

About you

You might come from a forces/navy background or a harbor master/marina manager role, and bring an understanding of operational tidal waters. Regardless, you will quickly acquire the maritime knowledge you need from the team around you. What matters is that you are a strong line manager with a customer-focused approach.

In terms of accreditation, we are looking for someone who brings an NVQ Level 4 or equivalent in a relevant discipline (e.g. Operational Management) and an NEBOSH National General Certificate Occupational Health & Safety. You'll also be able to supervise people who operate and maintain plant/tools and equipment. Plus, you'll bring a valid driving licence.

About us

One of the UK's biggest charities, we maintain 2,000 miles of historic canals, rivers, docks and reservoirs, along with museums, archives and the country's third largest collection of protected historic buildings - preserving them for future generations.

Our mission is to have by 2020 a thriving, sustainable waterway network cherished by a public that shares a deep sense of responsibility for its wellbeing. Achieving this will be a fascinating challenge. Come and be part of it.
