We are looking for a dynamic and gregarious individual to take on the task of General Manager at Cockwells, a growing and unique marine business that designs and builds some of the world's most desirable craft.
We work at the forefront of technology and need a General Manager who will drive the yard forward as we continue to strive for excellence in everything we do, from the building of bespoke vessels to the management processes that we use.
A key aspect of this role will be the ability to manage client expectations, some of which are very particular and will have to be learnt. Forward thinking and the capacity to understand the bigger picture are also vital attributes. Other essential elements include outstanding organisational skills, administrative excellence; proven experience in business management; IT proficiency; marine industry knowledge and exemplary people skills.
Tasks
Project Management
- Overall management of our project managers
- Arrangement of a weekly management meeting during which resources, including workforce and facilities, are allocated to each project
- Provide Project Managers with any essential financial, workforce-related or customer information
- Monitor all current projects and discuss progress with the relevant Project Manager when required
- Hold Project Managers accountable for their projects and ensure that they adhere to agreed budgets and timelines at all times
- Ensure that sales and customer enquiries are responded to in a timely fashion and provide support to Project Managers when required
- Take responsibility for all contracts, projects, estimates and invoices, and ensure their accuracy
- Ensure that work-in-progress is signed off on a weekly basis and invoiced for accordingly.
Boatyard and overall management
- Monitor boat movements and ensure that all booked jobs are implemented
- Monitor the engineering department and oversee the following tasks:
- the tidying of the yard
- the servicing of all vehicles and onsite machinery
- the booking and implementation of all inspections (including lifting, air extraction, electrics, etc.)
- Manage contractors that deal with Health & Safety, Human Resources and IT
- Work closely with Dave Cockwell on overall strategy to take the business forward
- Manage the company's finances
