JOB DESCRIPTION
An opportunity has arisen for a Senior Marine Lubricant Consultant to join our clients Lubricant Consultancy team.

Reporting to the Consultancy Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for providing technical support for lubricants, including engine, gear, hydraulic oils and greases, to our customers (primarily the Royal Navy but also other MOD and commercial customers).

A broad knowledge of marine, industrial and automotive lubricants is essential and as a key aspect of this support will be in the Defence sector, any previous experience in this field would be beneficial.

Key responsibilities will include:

    Providing in-service support and advice to customers in the marine lubricants sector. This will include product selection and application advice, identification of acceptable alternatives and support to product rationalisation;
    Identification of appropriate test suites for samples provided by customers for quality assurance or failure investigation; interpreting the results of the testing undertaken by our lubricants laboratory and providing meaningful conclusions and authoritative recommendations for any further action;
    Maintaining an up to date knowledge of customers’ product inventories and user requirements, an awareness of the equipment, typical operating regimes and logistical considerations associated with a specific customer;
    Maintaining an awareness of current lubricant commercial practices and specifications, the lubricants market place and key organisations operating in and supplying to these markets;
    Providing advice and guidance to customers on future trends and developments within the lubricants industry - particularly with respect to lubricant technologies but also on future legislative changes, in the UK, the EU and globally, that may impact on the customers’ selection and use of lubricants.

Job Qualifications

Applicants should have a qualification in Chemistry or a related discipline and demonstrable experience in a technical support role within the lubricant sector.
The ideal candidate will also have:

    A knowledge of the formulation and testing of lubricants, ideally obtained with a major lubricant formulator;
    Experience of working with marine lubricants, preferably in the Defence sector;
    A knowledge of industrial and automotive lubricants products and specifications noting their close association with many products used in the marine market and in order to provide support to customers in other market segments;
    Confidence in written and oral communication, with good interpersonal skills and the ability to lead technical meetings and discussions;
    Ability to manage and prioritise workload;
    Experience of working with Microsoft Office Software including Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Knowledge of the Microsoft Access database software would be advantageous.

Travel within UK and abroad
Full UK driving license required.
The successful candidate must be able to obtain UK Security Clearance (SC)

Salary

£40,000 - £44,000pa DOE
