JOB DESCRIPTION
This is an exciting opportunity to join Clipper Ventures plc within the technical team.

We are seeking an experienced electrical and electronics engineer with knowledge of navigational aids and communication systems who will immediately fit into this busy team in the UK but who will also travel with the race.

Clipper Ventures is an international marine events company promoting round the world yacht racing. Famed for the world's only amateur global race, the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race, the company also owns the rights to the professional solo round the world race VELUX 5 OCEANS, as well as running a corporate events division Clipper Events and a world-class training programme.

Founded by legendary British sailor, Sir Robin Knox-Johnston, the first man to ever circumnavigate the globe solo, non-stop, the Clipper Race was established to allow anyone, regardless of previous sailing practice, the chance to experience the exhilaration of ocean racing. The Clipper Race fleet consists of 12 70' Round the World Race yachts and 10 68' ex-Race yachts.

Whilst the primary requirement of the role is to maintain the electrical, electronic, navigation and communication systems, it will also involve undertaking general maintenance duties on all of our yachts whilst they are in the UK (including re-fit) and also during each of the 15 Clipper RTW Race stopovers in various parts of the world.  Knowledge of sailing yachts and their systems is therefore a prerequisite.

Whilst having good general mechanical skills, the successful applicant must also have experience in:
Sailing yacht navigation electronics/instruments (Garmin/Raymarine/electronic chart software).
Satellite communications equipment (Inmarsat  FBB/Iridium/Sat C).
Onboard IT systems in order to run all of the above.
12 & 24 volt DC electrical systems and 240 volt AC electrical systems.
Anyone applying for this position must be able to work on their own initiative as well as within a close knit team and be prepared for long and unsociable hours, working weekends / bank holidays, a demanding work schedule and extensive worldwide travel.

Whilst we are interested in formal qualifications, previous experience and hands on abilities are equally important.  A valid driver's licence is required.

Please send a CV & covering letter to Simon Johnston at Clipper Ventures via the "Apply Here" button below
