JOB DESCRIPTION
The company is a firmly established leading supplier of Aids to Navigation with an extensive range of products including navigation buoys, navigation lights for fixed and floating applications, monitoring systems, solar power systems, mooring buoys, zone marking buoys and data buoy platforms.

This company can supply, install and maintain complete Aids to Navigation solutions and has supplied all the UK Lighthouse Authorities and most of the major UK port and harbour authorities, offshore wind and wave power installations, marinas, aquaculture sites and research institutions.

As an Engineering Technician, you'll be involved in the design, construction and assembly of projects, as well as maintenance of existing installations, and the assembly and testing of assemblies for stock and systems from overseas suppliers. You will also be expected to ensure machinery and equipment runs smoothly. Your work may also include scheduled, preventative and emergency maintenance.

Your duties could involve:

    The assembly and testing of standard assemblies for stock.
    Assembling and testing products from our suppliers.
    Drawing up plans and specifications for projects, using computer-assisted engineering and design software.
    Carrying out feasibility studies for new projects.
    Estimating material, construction, and labour costs, and project timescales.
    Making sure projects meet electrical and construction safety regulations.
    Carrying out quality inspections
    Fixing faults on site or arranging for replacement equipment to be installed
    Responding to equipment breakdowns
    Keeping sales managers informed of progress.
    Making scheduled checks on machinery and parts
    Responding to machinery breakdowns.
    Coordinating technicians and craftspeople.
    Testing installations and systems
    Attending meetings, writing reports and giving presentations to managers and clients.


You'll service and repair some of the equipment. You could work on mechanical, electrical, and computerised systems.
You'll initially work as part of a team, but after suitable training & experience will be required to work alone or supervise others.
You may be working indoors in our office or workshop, outdoors assembling equipment (sometimes at customer’s premises), or off shore maintaining floating meteorological weather stations, where personal BOSIET training will be provided beforehand.

  •     An understanding of the marine environment and aids to navigation.


Hours and environment
You'll normally work around 37½ hours a week, with occasional overtime to meet deadlines or whilst working away on site.

Education

  •     At least one of the following minimum levels of education is expected in the appropriate subjects:
  •     City & Guilds Certificate
  •     BTEC National Certificate
  •     NVQ/SVQ Level 3 and above
  •     HNC or HND
  •     Degree
  •     A full driving licence


Salary

£25,000 - £30,000 DOE
