JOB DESCRIPTION
The Retreat Boatyard is a very well established all services boatyard in East Devon, and is looking for an experienced senior engineer to assist, lead and help a team; notably an engineering department of 2-3 engineers (and a customer services manager).

The company is friendly, and flexible around its staff and any family commitments; and prides itself on a high quality of work and good relationships with existing customers. The business has an overall staff of around 12 covering all aspects of repairs, storage, brokerage, chandlery etc. The candidate will be expected to work with other members in other teams, and provide initiative to grow his department, and assist in hiring additional technicians as required.
                                                                                                       
The business has three major inboard dealerships but also supplies and services outboards. In additional to sound inboard capability, the candidate must have extensive outboard experience and willing to promote and support any applicable dealership opportunities and drive the business forwards. In addition the candidate must have good electrical (dc) experience.

Good organisational and communication skills are essential. The position suits an experienced manager looking for a new challenge and the responsibilities of growing a business. Further advancement is possible, and this will be very much up to the individual. The candidate should ideally have over 8 years of experience and must have some dealership qualifications/training.

     To join an established team of skilled staff with their own complimentary skills
      To build on existing skills and inboard dealerships and look for growth in the outboard market and other complimentary areas
      To include working on small/large diesel inboards, shaft and stern drives; auxiliary and main system outboards; generators and other systems
      To include electrical (dc only) and electronic system fit/test/rigging
      To include work leisure and commercial boats, both on and off site. Experience on industrial system is a benefit, but not a requirement
      To have addition skills such as welding, hydraulic – again, of benefit but not essential
      To include preparing estimates for customers, working with both paper and electronic job sheets
       Clean driving licence, experience/capability of boat operations, and basic IT skills are required. The company operates two vans.
      To include ordering parts and stock as required with other members of staff
      To work with other manager to maintain good records and provide accurate information to customers and management
      Duties will also include carrying out other boatyard activities, as and when required. Formal training and certification will be given and is mandatory for all operational staff and may include operations and support of boat movers and crane.
       Candidate must be confident, well motivated, and able to use their initiative and enjoy a challenge, be computer literate and have attention to detail and quality of work
      You must enjoy working in a ‘boatyard business’ with a good customer base, with a small friendly well motivated team.
      You will be expected to reach a minimum utilisation target, and work with the rest of the team to make sure they achieve theirs.


The candidate must be ready for a challenge, and want to drive the business forward. Performance bonuses, a profit share and senior management position may be offered for the right candidate who can demonstrate value after a period of time.

The applicant will require experience on multiple marine engine makes. Dealer training will be given and is mandatory. Commercial and industrial experience is also of benefit as this is seen as a growth area.

You will be required to liaise with customers directly, keeping them informed and advised about progress and any issues, costs and completion timetable. A customer services manager will assist in these areas

Hours:
Contract Hours: 40 hour standard week. 8.00am to 5.00pm with 1 hour for lunch weekdays. 9.00am to 1pm or 4pm on Saturdays as part of a rota. With flexitime to accommodate changes and requirements for early starts etc...

Holidays
The holiday year begins on the 1st January and ends on the 31st December each year.  Annual leave entitlement is 28 days. Bank Holidays are treated as normal working days. The period between Christmas and New Year are mandatory holiday periods. Staff are not allowed to take holiday during peak seasons.
